Recently, though, the comedian has backed Mr Lowe\u2019s fledgling Right-wing party amid concerns over the impact of immigration, cancel culture, free speech<\/a> and Islam.<\/p>\n

In an interview with The Telegraph in 2014, Cleese said the UK Independence Party was \u201cenunciating something enormously important\u201d in enshrining a sense of identity, but said he was unlikely to vote for them.<\/p>\n

He said he was \u201call for immigration<\/a>\u201d but expressed concern about \u201cpeople who come here who really don\u2019t like our culture\u201d.<\/p>\n

In 2018, Mr Cleese said he was relocating to Nevis in the Caribbean and later claimed London was no longer an English city, prompting Sir Sadiq Khan to say the actor sounded \u201clike he\u2019s in character as Basil Fawlty\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u2018There won\u2019t be a Britain left to restore\u2019<\/p>\n

Mr Cleese went on to dismiss the Mayor of London as a \u201csilly little man\u201d, adding: \u201cTraditional British values are under attack from Muslim belief systems.\u201d<\/p>\n

Among dozens of social media posts in the past few days, Cleese has reshared several from Mr Lowe. In one, Mr Lowe pledged that Marlon West, Restore Britain\u2019s candidate to replace Andy Burnham as mayor of Greater Manchester, would \u201cgo to war with the Pakistani Muslim rape gangs\u201d.<\/p>\n

In another, he said: \u201cIf the size of the Muslim population continues to grow at its current pace, there won\u2019t be a Britain left to restore.\u201d<\/p>\n
