We will never see the likes of Queen Elizabeth II again. She took no nonsense. During a crunch so-called summit at Sandringham in 2020, before Prince Harry<\/a> and Meghan Markle<\/a> announced their departure from the Royal Family<\/a>, she rejected the couple\u2019s proposal of a unique \u201chalf-in, half-out\u201d role, whereby they would only take part in some duties required by the Firm. The Sussexes said on their website that they wanted \u201cprogressive\u201d roles as they became \u201cfinancially independent\u201d.<\/p>\n

But Her Late Majesty<\/a> was not having it, and rightly so. When it comes to the monarchy, you need to be in or out. Otherwise, the institution would become way too porous. In order to survive, the Crown must remain united with a firm purpose and vision: to provide symbolic leadership of the nation, back Britain at home and abroad and help noble causes. Harry and Meghan have instead sought to actively sabotage the institution, even when the UK\u2019s longest-serving sovereign was still with us, causing unneeded problems during her final years.<\/p>\n

Now, as the former Queen is meant to be resting in peace at Windsor next to her husband, Prince Philip, she will no doubt be turning in her grave as reports suggest that Harry and Meghan are trying once again to carve out a role similar to the one she forbade several years ago.<\/p>\n

Royal commentator Kevin O’Sullivan told Sky News Australia<\/a> that the prince is “obsessed” with creating a “half-in, half-out” royal lifestyle by splitting his time between the United States and Britain.<\/p>\n

Royal historian Marlene Koenig told The Mirror: “It is inevitable that Harry would want to spend more time in his homeland with his children.\u201d She added: \u201cBut Harry wants his kids to connect with the UK and, perhaps, with family.\u201d<\/p>\n

Harry is no doubt buoyed by a meeting behind closed doors he had with Meghan and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, with the King and Queen at Highgrove House earlier this month, while he was in the UK.<\/p>\n

It seems he could be using this as a springboard to carve out a bigger role in Britain, as he is reportedly missing his old life here.<\/p>\n

You chose to abandon your country and eke out a life as a minor celebrity in California instead. You\u2019ve made your bed – so lie in it.<\/p>\n

I bet this view is shared by many Britons who have felt, and continue to feel, let down by a much-loved member of the royal clan.<\/p>\n

His and Meghan\u2019s partnership as two members of the so-called \u201cFab Four\u201d with Prince William<\/a> and Princess Catherine.<\/p>\n

The group could have ensured the monarchy’s success for decades to come. The Crown is still in a good place, with a solid line of succession. But it could have been even more effective.<\/p>\n

Harry and Meghan would have resonated with people – those younger and of different backgrounds – who perhaps would not be as excited about William and Catherine.<\/p>\n

A way in is, no doubt, the King himself, who will want to see his grandchildren more often.<\/p>\n

Ms Koenig also said that \u201cthe fact that Charles and the Palace apparently took control of the Highgrove meeting \u2013 and there have been no leaks \u2013 is a sign that Charles wants to heal this relationship privately\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"We will never see the likes of Queen Elizabeth II again.
