Wakefield Trinity will have forward Matty Storton available for their round 21 away trip to face Catalans Dragons despite the former Hull KR man being sent off and charged.<\/p>\n

Storton landed his second red card of the season in Wakefield\u2019s dominant win over Castleford Tigers with Trinity seemingly galvanised by going down to 12 as they went on to win 52-14 and move second in Super League<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Daryl Powell would deem the red card as \u2018harsh\u2019 when speaking post-match<\/a> with Storton sent off for making direct contact to the head of Alex Mellor. Twere understandable fears that Storton would be banned but those fears were unwarranted as the Match Review Panel have confirmed zero bans this week<\/a>.<\/p>\n

There are a total of ten charges with Storton copping a Grade C charge, typically worth five points, and in normal circumstances that would be enough for the Trinity man to be banned given that he headed into the disciplinary panel with one penalty point on his record.<\/p>\n

As such, a five-point charge should theoretically trigger a ban, with the threshold for one match sitting at six points, but that\u2019s not been the case this week.<\/p>\n

How a red card actually saved Wakefield Trinity forward from a ban<\/p>\n

Storton has actually been handed just three penalty points, taking him to four in total, and he can thank his red card for saving him from a ban.<\/p>\n

The ever complicated disciplinary laws have saved the second-rower as players who get sent off in matches see their penalty points reduced as a method to ensure that they are not punished twice \u2013 once in the game and once again at the disciplinary verdict.<\/p>\n

Players sent off in the first half see two penalty points taken from any resulting charge, which in Storton\u2019s case means his five-point Grade C charge actually drops to a three-point charge, thus he avoids a ban.<\/p>\n

When sent off earlier in the second against Hull KR, Storton saw a one-point reduction on his Grade C charge, dropping it to four points, as he was sent off in the second half.<\/p>\n

In effect, had Storton only been sin binned on Friday night then he would be serving a one-match ban so the red card has actually aided him and Wakefield Trinity.<\/p>\n

Going forward, he\u2019ll carry 1.75 penalty points on his record.<\/p>\n

Also charged by the Match Review Panel were a trio of Leeds Rhinos players, whilst the sin-binned duo of Josh Charnley and Leon Hayes picked up charges but avoided bans.<\/p>\n
