{"id":715746,"date":"2026-07-28T17:12:10","date_gmt":"2026-07-28T17:12:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/715746\/"},"modified":"2026-07-28T17:12:10","modified_gmt":"2026-07-28T17:12:10","slug":"canal-groups-revenue-jumps-40-as-multichoice-deal-boosts-earnings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/715746\/","title":{"rendered":"Canal+ Group&#8217;s Revenue Jumps 40% as MultiChoice Deal Boosts Earnings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/canal-group-2\/\" id=\"auto-tag_canal-group-2\" data-tag=\"canal-group-2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Canal+ Group<\/a>, the parent company of \u201cPaddington\u201d producer Studiocanal, saw its revenue climb 40% to \u20ac4.3 billion ($4.8 billion) for the first half of 2026, boosted by the acquisition of <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/multichoice\/\" id=\"auto-tag_multichoice\" data-tag=\"multichoice\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">MultiChoice<\/a> which has significantly expanded the pay-TV group\u2019s footprint across Africa.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe group, which is listed at the London stock exchange, said it had already realized $136 million in profit-and-loss synergies from the MultiChoice acquisition and remains on track to achieve its $284 million synergy target by the end of 2026. The banner\u2019s EBIT rose 68% to $492 million, representing a margin of 10.1%, while its cash flow from operations reached \u20ac636 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe company said its turnaround plan for MultiChoice is already gathering pace thanks to investments in sports and entertainment. Subscriptions in MultiChoice territories rose 40% during the first half, while South Africa recorded its strongest month for new subscribers in a decade in June, driven by FIFA World Cup programming and the launch of the Novelas+ channels. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cOur strong first-half results reflect our strategic progress,\u201d said Maxime Saada, Canal+ CEO, who pointed the company\u2019s increased scale following the acquisition of MultiChoice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSaada said Canal+ Group grew its combined subscriber base by 7% in the first half of 2026 and had its highest new subscriber uptake in a decade in June in South Africa. <\/p>\n<p>The banner also recently secured rights to South Africa\u2019s Premier Soccer League, as well as the upcoming men\u2019s and women\u2019s Rugby World Cups; while ramping up investment in African content, with a slate that includes \u201cThe Road Home,\u201d which has been touted as its first major South African film production; alongside projects including \u201cHeist of Benin,\u201d described as \u201cOcean\u2019s Eleven with an African twist;\u201d and an adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie\u2019s acclaimed novel \u201cAmericanah.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe company also highlighted a strong six months for Studiocanal, whose film division enjoyed theatrical hits across several territories, notably \u201cGuru\u201d and \u201cChildren of the Resistance\u201d in France; \u201cPressure\u201d in the U.S.; \u201cExtrawurst\u201d and \u201cWoodwalkers 2\u201d in Germany; and \u201cHousemaid\u201d in Australia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tLooking ahead at the second half of the year, Studiocanal is also poised to have a robust presence in the fall festival circuit, including at Venice which it supports and where it will present on opening night Danny Boyle\u2019s \u201cInk,\u201d starring Jack O\u2019Connell as Larry Lamb\u00a0and Guy Pearce as Rupert Murdoch; at the London Film Festival with Simon Stone\u2019s \u201cElsinore,\u201d starring Andrew Lincoln and Olivia Colman, also on opening night; and Jonathan Schey\u2019s \u201cEverybody Wants to **** Me\u201d which is set to premiere at Toronto.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe company also scored the biggest deal of the Cannes film market, boarding Garth Davis\u2019s hotly anticipated \u201cThe Midnight Library,\u201d an adaptation of Matt Haig\u2019s bestselling novel starring Florence Pugh. Upcoming projects include \u201cPaddington 4;\u201d Zack Snyder\u2019s remake of \u201cEscape From New York;\u201d \u201cThe Road Home;\u201d and an adaptation of Freida McFadden\u2019s bestseller \u201cThe Divorce.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSeparately, Canal+ has also confirmed it will launch in Belgium next year after securing exclusive rights to UEFA men\u2019s club competitions. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSaada also highlighted Canal+ Group\u2019s five-year deal with French cinema organizations unveiled on Monday. The agreement will see the pay-TV group invest nearly $1.1 billion in French and European films between 2028 and 2032. As such, it also preserves the banner\u2019s place in France\u2019s media chronology, allowing it to continue to offer subscribers films six months after their theatrical release.
