You can be among the first in the world to play Crazy Taxi: World Tour<\/a> in September, as SEGA plots a closed beta test for the long-awaited arcade reboot.<\/p>\n

Sign ups are open now<\/a> through 31st August on PS5, ahead of the test getting underway from 11th September through 13th September.<\/p>\n

The beta will include two online multiplayer modes: Pickup Race and Cops \u2018N\u2019 Cabbies. There\u2019ll also be four drivers, six cars, and two different maps \u2013 with the already announced West Coast among them.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s how the blurb describes the multiplayer modes:<\/p>\n

\u201cIn Pickup Race, up to 6 players will compete with each other to drop off as many passengers as possible within a set time limit, earning as much crazy money as possible.<\/p>\n

In Cops \u2018N\u2019 Cabbies, players will be split into two teams competing against each other.<\/p>\n

For either mode, they can be played in a Ranked Match, where players will be matchmade with each other, or in Custom Match, where custom lobbies and rules can be set.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s worth noting that the single player story mode, planned for the full release, will not be included in the closed beta test.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a new trailer above which shows off the San Francisco map, which will be familiar to anyone who played the original game.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve also included some screenshots of the multiplayer modes.<\/p>\n

Obviously the announcement of this game was embroiled in controversy, when SEGA confirmed it was using generative AI on some of the art assets<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But it\u2019s since said it will replace all of those<\/a> when the final game launches in 2027.<\/p>\n

It\u2019d be a shame for this game to be marred in controversy, because it\u2019s comfortably one of my most anticipated releases of the generation.<\/p>\n
