\n Schumacher felt it was a valuable test against direct opponents, particularly for the younger members of his squad.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cA good test, a good pre-season game for us, something different,\u201d he said after the final whistle.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cObviously, coming up against a team, the first one of the pre-season schedule who have been quite direct\u00a0and we had to deal with balls coming into the box and second balls, so loads for us to learn.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cSomething to take from it straight away; we’ve got to start both halves better.\u00a0They go on to the front foot in the first 15 seconds.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cThey got a foul, a free kick and a chance to put the ball into your box, so you don’t want to do that too often.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cThen they get on top at the start of the second half, so we need to learn from that and start the games properly.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
\n Schumacher made eight changes from the draw against Everton at the Toughsheet Stadium several days prior.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cYou’ve got to get everybody up to a level playing field, that was one of the reasons behind a lot of the changes from Saturday,\u201d the head coach added.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cWe need to get people up to play the same sort of minutes and keep the load equal because you don’t know who you’re going to need to start on the opening day.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cWe’ve seen everybody play, everybody’s getting stronger.\u00a0There\u2019s still a lot to improve on, technically still a few errors in there, new lads still gelling and whatever.\u00a0But again, it’s pre-season.\u00a0It’s to be expected, it’s only game number four.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
\n Gale came off the bench to score the equaliser and the substitutes, in general, had a positive impact after the break.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cI thought we finished the game strong,\u201d said Schumacher. \u201cApart from the first five minutes of the first half\u00a0and the first five minutes of the second half, where we were just a bit sloppy,\u00a0I thought we controlled the game pretty much.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cIn the last 25 minutes, we looked quite dangerous.\u00a0We got into some really good areas\u00a0and had some chances that we probably should have scored from.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cBut pleased not to lose the game,\u00a0even though the results are not important (in friendlies).\u00a0We don’t want to be picking up defeats.\u00a0We finished the game strong, which is important.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
\n Chris Forino was absent from the squad with a groin issue, but Schumacher played down any injury concerns.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cHe did the open training session yesterday\u00a0and after the session, he just said he felt a little bit of fatigue in his groin, so he was left out,\u201d the boss explained.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cBen Davies was in the squad tonight\u00a0and I was potentially going to put him on,\u00a0but I thought it was a good test for the two young boys,\u00a0Lewis and Sam,\u00a0dealing with two centre-forwards and direct play.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cSo we just left them on\u00a0and let them see out the 90 minutes.\u00a0Davies has done some extra work with the fitness coach, but Chris is fine.
