{"id":716331,"date":"2026-07-29T00:32:09","date_gmt":"2026-07-29T00:32:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/716331\/"},"modified":"2026-07-29T00:32:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-29T00:32:09","slug":"terence-crawford-reflects-on-the-hardest-fight-of-his-career-the-only-time-ive-been-hurt-that-bad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/716331\/","title":{"rendered":"Terence Crawford reflects on the hardest fight of his career: &#8220;The only time I&#8217;ve been hurt that bad&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/boxer\/terence-crawford\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Terence Crawford<\/a> has recalled the biggest crises of his 42-fight career, reflecting on the only time he claims to have ever experienced serious jeopardy in the ring.<\/p>\n<p>The former three-division undisputed champion announced his retirement in December, just a few months after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/boxing\/story\/_\/id\/46251831\/terence-crawford-tops-canelo-alvarez-historic-undisputed-crown\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">dethroning Canelo Alvarez with a unanimous decision victory<\/a> at 168lbs.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/news\/crawford-on-fighter-who-is-unbeatable\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018Bud\u2019 ended his career after claiming world titles in five weight classes<\/a>, while also maintaining an unbeaten record and winning the majority of his fights in dominant fashion.<\/p>\n<p>The American did not quite have it all his own way, however, as many will remember his surprisingly challenging encounter with Egidijus Kavaliauskas in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, Crawford won via a ninth-round stoppage, but only after climbing off the canvas in what referee Ricky Gonzalez controversially ruled a no-knockdown during the third frame.<\/p>\n<p>According to Crawford, though, it was down at 135lbs where he was left in genuine trouble by Olympic gold medallist Yuriorkis Gamboa.<\/p>\n<p>When asked on <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/xPjIQ9fZ_cs?si=jE-eVuukxtbxzzyo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Real Report<\/a> to name his hardest fight, \u2018Bud\u2019 highlighted a moment in round nine of their 2014 clash as the closest he ever came to getting stopped.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGamboa. He just caught me [with a right hand]. [I was] being cocky. My leg got stiff. That\u2019s the only time I\u2019ve ever been hurt that bad in a fight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat had a lot to do with the weight, too.
