\n Otherwise known as the European Challenge tour, it is famed for being a stepping stone to the DP World Tour for up-and-coming golfers and, indeed, last year\u2019s Roxburghe winner Daniel Young, from Perth, did just that, with a 19-under total of 265, and is now a familiar face on the world tour and at the Open.\n<\/p>\n
\n However, for some more established names the Tour and Scottish Challenge event, supported by The R&A, is also a place to rediscover form, and former Ryder Cup and world top 50 player Chris Wood will line up at the Roxburghe next week alongside fellow world tour pros Eddie Pepperell and Matthew Southgate.\n<\/p>\n
\n Wood was once ranked 22 in the world, finished fifth and third in his first two Open Championships and played in the 2016 Ryder Cup.\n<\/p>\n
\n After a few years off the circuit, he marked his return this year by winning the Italian Challenge Open.\n<\/p>\n
\n Pepperell was once 32nd in the world and won the Scottish Open, while Southgate finished tied 46th in the recent Open at Royal Birkdale alongside John Rahm, Patrick Reed and Francesco Molinari.\n<\/p>\n
\n Christopher Addison took over as the Schloss Roxburghe\u2019s Golf Sales Manager last year having worked at Turnberry and Le Golf National in Paris, and enjoying a spell in football marketing, and he believes the Roxburghe is becoming more well-known across the golfing world.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cI knew of the Roxburghe before I came here and its reputation as a fine golf course in a wonderful area attracted me,\u201d he said, \u201cbut there is an element of the Scottish Borders and its fine courses across the region still being considered something of a \u2018hidden gem\u2019.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cI hear of people being all over the world saying the Schloss Roxburghe is on their \u2018courses they have to play\u2019 list, and having the HotelPlanner bring a tournament here, with such a high-class field, is a great way to help us put the Schloss Roxburghe and the Borders as a golfing region firmly on that world map.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
\n They will be playing for a share of 250,000 Euros from Thursday, August 6 to Sunday, August 9 next week, with the winner collecting close to 50,000 Euros.\n<\/p>\n
\n One man back for another tilt is Englishman Will Enefer, who lowered the course record last year to 61.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cThe great thing from our point of view,\u201d said Addison, \u201cis that the Roxburghe is a great course for spectators. It is long and wide in places, and it\u2019s quite relaxed so it will be free for people to roll up and follow the pros up close, and get an insight to just how good they are.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
