{"id":717204,"date":"2026-07-29T12:06:08","date_gmt":"2026-07-29T12:06:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/717204\/"},"modified":"2026-07-29T12:06:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-29T12:06:08","slug":"endangered-amur-tiger-cubs-born-at-longleat-in-conservation-boost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/717204\/","title":{"rendered":"Endangered Amur tiger cubs born at Longleat in conservation boost"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Longleat is now home to seven tigers, the largest family group in the UK.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Yana and Red&#8217;s first litter, and the first in 20 years at Longleat, were born in 2019 with one boy, Rusty, and one girl, Yuki.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Their last litter of four girls were born in May 2024, and, with help from the public, were named Ginger Biscuit, Dora-Boo, Heidi and Seeka.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Three of the pair&#8217;s offspring have since moved to other wildlife collections as part of the European Endangered Species Programme, which aims to maintain a healthy captive population of the species.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Amur tigers, also known as Siberian tigers, face several threats in the wild including poaching and habitat loss due to forest fires and logging. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Those in the wild today are descendants from a small population, meaning their genetic similarities make them particularly vulnerable to adapting to new pressures, like diseases or climate change.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Longleat is now home to seven tigers, the largest family group in the UK.
