Staff working at Manchester’s busiest rail station are set to strike on Saturday over what their union has said is the unfair sacking of a colleague. <\/p>\n
About 70 Avanti West Coast members who are part of the RMT and work at Manchester Piccadilly have announced plans for a 24-hour strike, with further walk-outs planned.<\/p>\n
The action comes after what the union said was the dismissal of a staff member based on “anonymous allegations” over which they have taken industrial action four times in the past two months. <\/p>\n
Avanti West Coast has been contacted for comment.<\/p>\n
RMT general secretary Eddie Dempsey said the sacked worker had “clearly been the victim of a toxic workplace culture which encouraged anonymous and unsubstantiated complaints”.<\/p>\n
He claimed the worker had been “made a scapegoat for multiple management failings”.<\/p>\n
