{"id":717848,"date":"2026-07-29T20:08:08","date_gmt":"2026-07-29T20:08:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/717848\/"},"modified":"2026-07-29T20:08:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-29T20:08:08","slug":"david-benavidez-set-to-face-fellow-world-champion-in-november","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/717848\/","title":{"rendered":"David Benavidez set to face fellow world champion in November"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/boxer\/david-benavidez\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">David Benavidez<\/a> put in one of the performances of the year when he dethroned unified cruiserweight world champion Gilberto Ramirez in May, and now \u2018The Mexican Monster\u2019 is set to face another world champion, with a November fight date being targeted.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/news\/david-benavidez-next-after-ramirez-win\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Benavidez halted Ramirez in a dominant display<\/a> upon his cruiserweight debut just two months ago, but despite prior intentions to return to light heavyweight during the aftermath, it has since become clear that Benavidez\u2019s future is at 200lbs.<\/p>\n<p>Still, an in-demand fight with <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/boxer\/dmitry-bivol\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dmitry Bivol<\/a> continues to be mentioned, but so does a potential cruiserweight match-up against Jai Opetaia, who has recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/boxing\/articles\/cdx82vdn5lno\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">filed a lawsuit against the IBF<\/a> after believing that the sanctioning body\u2019s decision to strip him as champion was unfair.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Avoiding those complications, Benavidez is instead targeting an alternate world title, with a November showdown against WBC cruiserweight champion Noel Mikaelian now nearing a deal, as per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boxingscene.com\/articles\/david-benavidez-noel-mikaelian-fight-expected-to-be-signed-by-weeks-end\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">BoxingScene.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The report states that the 29-year-old\u2019s promoter says the fight is a done deal on their end, and they know away Mikaelian\u2019s signature. It will likely end up in Las Vegas, though other locations have not been ruled out.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Mikaelian is a two-time WBC champion, first winning the belt with a third round stoppage win over Ilunga Makabu in November 2023.
