PETALING JAYA: Motorists are calling on the Road Transport Department (JPJ) to expand incentives under its MyJPJ app, saying the current 10% discount on motor insurance or takaful renewals is a good start but more can be done to drive wider adoption.<\/p>\n
They pointed out that other insurance and takaful providers have also offered online-exclusive promotions, including discounts of up to 10% for customers who purchase or renew motor policies through their own digital portals.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople are more likely to keep using the MyJPJ app if there are tangible benefits beyond a discount,\u201d said retailer Jordan Chin, 28.<\/p>\n
He suggested that JPJ reward regular users with additional incentives such as discounts on road tax renewals, loyalty rewards or cashback campaigns.<\/p>\n
However, he acknowledged that he managed to renew his motor takaful policy through the app with ease and welcomed the discount.<\/p>\n
\u201cI saved about RM60 on my renewal, which is always appreciated. More importantly, I didn\u2019t have to visit a counter or deal with paperwork,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Under the first phase of the Cermat Madani initiative launched by the Transport Ministry in collaboration with 10 insurance and takaful providers, motorists can enjoy 10% discount on motor insurance or takaful premium renewals done through the MyJPJ app from June 9 to Sept 9.<\/p>\n
But beginning Sept 10, eligibility for the rebate will depend on their driving behaviour and record.<\/p>\n
Marketing executive Yeo Zi Yi said the process was seamless, allowing him to renew his Etiqa motor insurance directly through the app without going through an agent.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was entitled to the discount because I had a clean driving record with no outstanding summonses. The process was easy and smooth,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Yeo said the MyJPJ app had evolved into a convenient one-stop platform for managing vehicle-related matters.<\/p>\n
\u201cI like that it has become an all-inclusive vehicle and road app. Everything is in one place, making it much easier to manage my car-related matters,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He estimated saving between RM45 and RM50 through the discount.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt may not seem like a lot, but every ringgit saved is a ringgit earned,\u201d said Yeo.<\/p>\n
However, he said users without a MyDigital ID may face an additional hurdle, as registration is required to access the feature.<\/p>\n
