While the company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sammobile.com\/news\/samsung-q2-2026-profit-usd-58-billion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">saw record-breaking profits<\/a> on the back of rising memory chip prices, its smartphone division <a href=\"https:\/\/news.samsung.com\/kr\/%ec%82%bc%ec%84%b1%ec%a0%84%ec%9e%90-2026%eb%85%84-2%eb%b6%84%ea%b8%b0-%ec%8b%a4%ec%a0%81-%eb%b0%9c%ed%91%9c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">reported<\/a> a loss for the first time in its history. And things could get even worse in the coming months.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nSamsung MX posts a loss for the first time\n<\/p>\n<p>Samsung DX (Device eXperience), the division that oversees the company&#8217;s smartphone and TV businesses, posted a loss of around KRW 800 billion (~$544 million) in the second quarter (Q2) of 2026. Of that amount, around KRW 700 billion (~$476 million) is attributed to Samsung MX, the division that sells smartphones, tablets, laptops, smartwatches, and other wearables.\n<\/p>\n<p>Analysts say Samsung&#8217;s mobile division could not post a profit despite <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sammobile.com\/news\/samsung-new-strategy-fight-smartphone-price-inflation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">efforts to limit the decline<\/a> by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sammobile.com\/news\/samsung-ramps-up-galaxy-s26-production-strong-demand\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">selling more high-end products<\/a> like the Galaxy S26 series and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sammobile.com\/news\/samsung-buy-more-display-panels-chinese-firms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">improving business efficiency<\/a>. Extremely high memory chip prices increased manufacturing costs and put pressure on its margins.\n<\/p>\n<p>Samsung&#8217;s Visual Display (VD) and Digital Appliances (DA) divisions, which sell TVs, monitors, and home appliances, posted a combined loss of KRW 10 billion (~$6.8 million).\n<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, Samsung&#8217;s Harman division posted a profit of KRW 400 billion (~$272 million). Harman makes digital cockpit solutions for modern vehicles and sells audio products, including speakers, soundbars, earphones, and headphones, under brands such as AKG, Arcam, Bang &amp; Olufsen Automotive, Harman Kardon, Infinity, JBL, and Mark Levinson.\n<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Today, Samsung Electronics posted its final earnings report for Q2 2026.
