It now features <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/gallery\/best-satellite-messengers\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"text link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">satellite messaging<\/a>, which I tested on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/google-pixel-watch-4-vs-apple-watch-ultra-3\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"text link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">weekend off-grid camping trip<\/a>. It&#8217;s a significant improvement over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/how-to-use-emergency-satellite-sos-iphone\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"text link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">sat comms on your phone<\/a>, since you&#8217;re more likely to have your watch on your body.<\/p>\n<p>The battery life on the Watch Ultra 3 is also improved\u2014now up to 42 hours from a mere 36 on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/review\/apple-watch-ultra-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"text link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Apple Watch Ultra 2<\/a>. On my weekend trip, I didn&#8217;t carefully dole out battery usage\u2014freely using the Watch Ultra 3 off-grid to navigate a several-hour car ride, track multiple trail runs and hikes, and send satellite texts\u2014and it lasted me from Friday morning to Sunday morning.<\/p>\n<p>It has the biggest display of any Apple Watch, which is better for viewing offline maps. It also has the same distinctive design as the original, which includes diving capabilities and a three-mic array for taking calls while on the ski lift.
