TEEN boxing star Callum Dan has taken another step along the road to boxing stardom by winning a youth title previously held by figures including Manny Pacquiao and Naoya Inoue.<\/p>\n

Dan, 17, won the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) Youth Super Middleweight title with a stoppage of Thai opponent Poramin Saengpak on a show at the World Siam Stadium in Bangkok on Saturday \u2013 his eighth straight win.<\/p>\n

Dan stopped his title rival with a powerful display that saw the fight stopped inside three rounds, after Saengpak succumbed under a series of thunderous blows.<\/p>\n

Having forced his opponent to take a standing count halfway through the third round, Dan then forced Saengpak down with a flurry of punches, at which point the contest was waved off.<\/p>\n

Although the top-of-the-bill bout was scheduled for 10 rounds, Saengpak looked keen to get his work done sooner and rushed forward with a number of swinging hooks in the early rounds \u2013 which Dan managed to duck and weave to avoid.<\/p>\n

Some good footwork then saw the Plymouth teenager get in some counter-punches, before starting to wear his opponent down with a steady stream of jabs \u2013 until Saengpak visibly wobbled and Dan went in for the kill.<\/p>\n

At just 16, Dan had already won the Asian Boxing Federation (ABF) Silver Middleweight Championship, and has added his second title less than a year later.<\/p>\n

His dad Shaun, who was in Callum\u2019s corner, said: \u201cHe boxed a good kid with a good record, and did a number on him really – took him out within three rounds, and his performance was good.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe set out before the fight to pick our shots and take our time, and when we got the chance to land the shots that we had been wanting to, he capitalised on them \u2013 he did really well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dan\u2019s skill and power proved too much for his opponent, who was no journeyman having won 23 times, with 18 of those inside the distance.<\/p>\n

Saengpak was unpredictable and awkward, with Dan showing patience and relying on his jab and movement throughout the fight. His power showed, as he caught Saengpak with a flurry, and forced a count from the referee half way through the third round. Less than fifteen seconds later, it was a short left hook that sent Saengpak to his knees, ending the fight with him visibly hurt.<\/p>\n

Shaun added: \u201cThat\u2019s the thing with Callum \u2013 he\u2019s got strong hands, and once he lands a solid shot, the opponents, they feel that kind of power and they struggle with it.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor a 17-year-old kid to hit as hard as he does \u2013 he hits like a man, and that\u2019s why he looks so comfortable boxing at that standard.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat title is a really respected title in the Far East \u2013 it\u2019s a Japanese title and it\u2019s a really respected title in Japan, China and the Philippines \u2013 people were coming up to us afterwards and saying that is a really good title to win, and will hopefully lead on to better things, and that is the plan really.\u201d<\/p>\n
