It is a common tool used by HMRC against companies that have failed to pay tax bills.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The filing threatens to end Gino D\u2019Acampo\u2019s high street presence just more than a year after his restaurant business was saved from collapse.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Upmarket runs four Gino D\u2019Acampo restaurants \u2013 in Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle and Leeds \u2013 as well as Luciano by Gino D\u2019Acampo on the Strand, London.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"640\" width=\"960\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Gino-DAcampo-1.jpg\" alt=\"Gino DAcampo restaurant exterior with outdoor seating, teal planters, black umbrellas, and brick building\" class=\"wp-image-2447080\"  \/>Six Gino D\u2019Acampo restaurants are in operation across England<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company fell into administration last year before being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecaterer.com\/news\/firm-behind-gino-dacampo-restaurants-sold-out-of-administration-for-5m\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">rescued<\/a> by an unnamed buyer in a \u00a35m swoop. The deal saved each of the firm\u2019s 400 jobs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Manchester-based restaurant owner was established in 2021 and was previously majority-owned by hospitality entrepreneur Steven Walker and former JD Sports boss Peter Cowgill.<\/p>\n<p>Gino restaurants owed \u00a36m<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The former JD chairman was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityam.com\/gino-dacampo-restaurant-empires-huge-debts-revealed-before-rescue\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">owed<\/a> more than \u00a32.6m when Upmarket collapsed, according to administrators Begbies Traynor. Cowgill still owns more than half of the company, according to Companies House filings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">D\u2019Acampo, an Italian chef and TV personality, came to prominence following his appearance on reality show I\u2019m a Celebrity\u2026Get Me Out of Here in 2009.\u00a0He later authored a number of cookbooks and presented a string of TV programmes, as well as making regular appearances on This Morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Upmarket Leisure, which is registered as a separate company but is controlled by the same directors and registered to the same address, saw its losses widen to nearly \u00a31.5m at the time of its administration, with total debts of almost \u00a36m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A spokesperson for HMRC said: \u201cWe take a supportive approach to dealing with customers who have tax debts and only file winding-up petitions once we\u2019ve exhausted all other options, in order to protect taxpayers\u2019 money.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Upmarket Hotels &amp; Leisure could not be reached for comment. <\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tRead more<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t<a class=\"read-more__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cityam.com\/thin-end-of-the-wedge-llps-brace-for-major-tax-overhaul\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Thin end of the wedge?
