The total weight of transported goods amounted to 13.3 billion tonnes, up by 1.8% compared with 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\">Poland recorded the highest volume of road freight transport, with 381.0 billion tonne-kilometres, or 20.2% of the EU total. Germany came second with 277.4 billion (14.7%), ahead of Spain (272.6 billion; 14.5%), France (172.9 billion; 9.2%) and Italy (161.7 billion; 8.6%). Together, these 5 countries accounted for 67.1% of the total EU road freight tonne-kilometres.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\">The overall distribution of EU road freight transport activity, measured in tonne-kilometres, remained broadly stable in 2025. Most freight was transported nationally (62.2%), while international transport accounted for 24.4%, <a class=\"ecl-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/statistics-explained\/index.php?title=Glossary:Cross-trade\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cross trade<\/a> for 10.7% and <a class=\"ecl-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/statistics-explained\/index.php?title=Glossary:Cabotage\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cabotage<\/a> for the remaining 2.7%.
