{"id":721321,"date":"2026-07-31T17:32:09","date_gmt":"2026-07-31T17:32:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/721321\/"},"modified":"2026-07-31T17:32:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-31T17:32:09","slug":"tour-of-denmark-wout-van-aert-scores-hat-trick-on-stage-3-with-a-win-on-wet-and-wild-queen-stage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/721321\/","title":{"rendered":"Tour of Denmark: Wout van Aert scores hat-trick on stage 3 with a win on wet and wild queen stage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"elk-8bf303c6-8ceb-11f1-bcbe-79ba078ccedb\">Wout van Aert (Visma-Lease a Bike) extended his lead in the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/tour-of-denmark\/\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/tour-of-denmark\/\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/tour-of-denmark\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tour of Denmark<\/a> with a third consecutive stage victory on a rainy stage 3 to Vejle.<\/p>\n<p>The Belgian powered away from challenger Luka\u0161 Kubi\u0161 (Unibet Rose Rockets) on the uphill run, while his teammate Christophe Laporte trailed for third on the stage.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"elk-8bf303c6-8ceb-11f1-bcbe-79ba078ccedb-2\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"kiosq-b\">The victory gives Van Aert a 20-second lead over Kubi\u0161 in the general classification.<\/p>\n<p>Latest Videos FromCyclingnews<\/p>\n<p aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"kiosq-b\">After a standard early breakaway, the stage really began to heat up with 60km to go after the move was down to just one rider, Andreas Stockbro (ColoQuick) and within a minute of the chasing peloton.<\/p>\n<p aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"kiosq-b\">Visma-Lease a Bike put in a huge surge of pace to try and split up the field with 57km to go, but Ashlin Barry slid out in a roundabout as he was leading the charge, forcing Van Aert to go off-roading to avoid the fall. The race leader got back underway quickly after changing bikes with Menno Huising.<\/p>\n<p>            You may like<\/p>\n<p aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"kiosq-b\">Then, as the gap to Stockbro came down further, Matyas Kopecky (Unibet Rose Rockets), Marcus Hansen (BHS-PL Beton Bornholm) and William Blume Levy (Uno-X Mobility) came across with 48km to go to breathe new life into the breakaway.<\/p>\n<p aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"kiosq-b\">The leaders were finally caught with 20km to go, and Visma-Lease a Bike again surged, this time using a small climb to cause splits throughout the peloton before Van Aert made his move with 17km to go.<\/p>\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">The latest race content, interviews, features, reviews and expert buying guides, direct to your inbox!<\/p>\n<p aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"kiosq-b\">Van Aert was joined by sprint rival Luka\u0161 Kubi\u0161 (Unibet Rose Rockets). They were joined by Uno-X Mobility rider Alexander Kamp and Van Aert&#8217;s teammate Laporte with 13.5km to go.<\/p>\n<p aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"kiosq-b\">At the start of the final lap, six more riders made it across: S\u00f8ren Kragh Andersen (Lidl-Trek), Pier-Andr\u00e9 C\u00f4t\u00e9 (NSN), Levy and Henrik Pedersen (Uno-X), Francisco Mu\u00f1oz (Polti-VisitMalta) and Matya\u0161 Kopeck\u00fd (Unibet).<\/p>\n<p aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"kiosq-b\">Uno-X Mobility led into the final kilometre but Van Aert accelerated past them with Kubi\u0161 on his wheel and Laporte right behind.
