Derbyshire recalled Jewell for Yousaf Bin Naeem while Glamorgan brought back 17-year-old Tom Edwards for Connor O’Riordan.<\/p>\n
The Welsh county chose to bowl on the picturesque school ground and, with a short boundary and well-manicured outfield, the boundaries were soon flowing.<\/p>\n
Martin Andersson fell lbw for 13 and Harry Came was bowled for a rapid 31, both falling to Douthwaite.<\/p>\n
The hosts reached 62-2 in the powerplay with Jewell and Wayne Madsen keeping up a similar run-rate in a stand of 62 before Madsen (39) mistimed a pull off Edwards to mid-wicket.<\/p>\n
Jewell reached his 50 in 64 balls while Guest lofted a trio of sixes into the crowd on the bank at mid-wicket as the pair added 117 in the middle of the innings, a record fourth-wicket stand in List A cricket against Glamorgan.<\/p>\n
The visitors’ bowling attack, without six leading options through Hundred calls, injuries and resting, had to settle for containment until Jewell lobbed Ul Hassan to cover. <\/p>\n
But Guest made sure of a powerful finish, ending with five sixes and five fours as Derbyshire matched exactly their total in last year’s fixture at the ground. <\/p>\n
Glamorgan faltered early as Eddie Byrom (10) guided Ben Aitchison to a leaping Anuj Dal at backward point and Callum Nicholls went leg-before to the next ball.<\/p>\n
But Ul Hassan got going for his second half-century in two games since paternity leave, building a platform in a stand of 59 with Will Smale.<\/p>\n
They could not accelerate further as Smale (20) was let down by his favourite ramp shot, with the economical Anuj Dal striking the stumps, and Ul Hassan was caught at point trying to reverse-sweep spinner Jack Morley.<\/p>\n
Despite the inexperience of the Welsh line-up, the sixth-wicket pair of teenager Hope-Bell and Horton both hit centuries in the victory over Sussex.<\/p>\n
But their stand of 65 was not enough to change the game before Hope-Bell holed out to long-on off Potts after a promising knock of 48. <\/p>\n
Horton’s half-century came up off only 41 balls but Douthwaite, capable of winning a game with powerful striking, was caught on the boundary off Andersson.<\/p>\n
Horton kept faint Glamorgan hopes alive as he smashed Potts for a huge straight six, his fourth maximum in a blistering 57-ball knock, before being caught behind next ball to end any doubts. <\/p>\n
Potts finished the innings off to record career-best figures.<\/p>\n
Next up, Derbyshire host Sussex at Derby on Sunday 2 August while Glamorgan continue their travels away to Hampshire on Wednesday, 5 August.<\/p>\n
Derbyshire’s Brooke Guest said:<\/p>\n
“It was nice to get the runs, but after the first couple of games it’s nice to get back on winning terms and hopefully pick up a bit of momentum.<\/p>\n
“We know we’ve potentially got to win our last four games. We’ve done the first bit but we’ve got four more to go to try to get through, and a lot of hard work to do in this competition.<\/p>\n
“We’ve spoken a lot about the batsmen coming in trying to raise the intensity, that was my role to get Caleb moving and get the partnership building. That was crucial in getting us to that total.<\/p>\n
“It was a reasonably nice wicket, a bit sticky at times, but I just had a plan of how and where I wanted to score. It was one of those days where it comes off for you.” <\/p>\n
Glamorgan’s Alex Horton told BBC Sport Wales:<\/p>\n
“It was a disappointing one to lose, as a group we thought we ought to have chased that. It was nice to get a few at the end but not close enough.<\/p>\n
“My job at number seven is to adapt and try to do whatever the team needs so it was nice to come in and get close to the total.<\/p>\n
“We’re a team of youngsters, we’re still learning our trade and there’s a lot of promise coming through.<\/p>\n
“We’ve a team of talented players and from game one we showed we’re not relying on certain players to score the runs.
