Many runners take things a little easier and cut back on the miles when they\u2019re on holiday. But this wasn\u2019t the case for American rapper and our new-favourite running convert Wiz Khalifa, who used a recent vacation as a chance to cement his love of the sport, having only just taken it up.<\/p>\n
\u2018Started running recently and i love it,\u2019 posted the \u2018Black and Yellow\u2019 singer on Instagram<\/a>, with images showing him clad, coincidently, in black Nike running shorts and yellow Nike Vomero 18<\/a> running shoes. Very on brand.<\/p>\n \u2018Went on vacation and all i did was run,\u2019 he added. \u20185 miles on Sunday and 3 miles the day before that.\u2019<\/p>\n He even posted his workout insights from the five miler, which indicates someone who is already partial to a bit of running nerdery. (Stats aren\u2019t everything, but we\u2019re here for it.) Khalifa ran 5.12 miles \u2013 just a mile short of 10K \u2013 in 49:26, at an average pace of 9:39 min\/mile (6:00 min\/km). If he held that pace for a full 10K, he\u2019d clock a time of an hour, almost exactly. Considering the average 10K finish time<\/a> for runners in the UK is 58:08, that\u2019s not bad going at all for a beginner. <\/p>\n Despite some initial safety concerns about running after dark, he also got hold of \u2018some equipment\u2019 \u2013 a head torch<\/a> and reflective gear \u2013 to go on a night run. \u2018I was questioning my safety for a min but then i said fugg it.\u2019<\/p>\n Since this inaugural post hard-launching his love of running, Khalifa has gone on to publish more running-centric content \u2013 and plenty of big brands, including Nike and Strava, have been among the many hyping up his new hobby. Could Khalifa be the next big running influencer we never saw coming?<\/p>\n Although his smoking-plus-running habit<\/a> isn\u2019t for everyone, Khalifa has returned to the topic of staying safe while running at night \u2013 a huge area of discussion in its own right.<\/p>\n \u2018Night runs are specifically dangerous, for the obvious,\u2019 he said in one post<\/a>. \u2018Can\u2019t see shit. The sun has a bedtime. And it would be smart if you take that into consideration. Me? I\u2019m new at this shit, so I\u2019m still figuring it all out. Not really thinking about the sun\u2019s bedtime. Just thinking about getting these mile in.\u2019<\/p>\n Khalifa also, it seems, already understands the importance of a shoe rotation<\/a> \u2013 and like any shoe-philic runner, he\u2019s keen to build on this. <\/p>\n \u2018When you work out with me, you\u2019ve gotta have three pairs of shoes, man,\u2019 he said in another post<\/a>, pointing to his trainers \u2018for lifting\u2019, his running shoes \u2013 \u2018that explains itself\u2019 \u2013 and his slides, because \u2018you ain\u2019t gonna want to have regular shoes on after all of that\u2019. A fair point. <\/p>\n \u2018All those brands go ahead and send me some shit,\u2019 he added. \u2018All supplies needed.\u2019<\/p>\n With more running under his belt, and more shoes in his rotation, Khalifa might even be tempted to take on a race at some point soon.
