This facility is the largest on Cal Expo&#8217;s property and was previously primarily used for horse racing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">HORNET STADIUM TO CAL EXPO?<\/p>\n<p>Almost a year ago, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sacstate?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">@sacstate<\/a> announced a new on-campus stadium project to renovate Hornet Stadium<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SacHornetsFB?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">@SacHornetsFB<\/a> is calling an audbile, and may to turn to Cal Expo (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CAStateFair?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">@CAStateFair<\/a>) and play at the Horse Racing Track that has since been abondend after\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Rut9TRpRjx\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">pic.twitter.com\/Rut9TRpRjx<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jake Gadon (@JakeGadon_TV) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JakeGadon_TV\/status\/1956852555491000451?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">August 16, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Previously, the university announced plans for a new stadium that would be built on the same footprint as the current <a href=\"https:\/\/hornetsports.com\/facilities\/hornet-stadium\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Hornet Stadium<\/a>. Renderings released by the school in October 2024 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/sacramento\/news\/see-renderings-of-sacramento-states-proposed-new-football-stadium-in-exclusive-first-look\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">showcased a state-of-the-art stadium<\/a> with a boosted capacity of up to 25,000 people.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>These new stadium plans come amid a push by Sacramento State to move to the FBS level.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/sacramento\/news\/sacramentos-cal-expo-will-no-longer-host-horse-racing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Earlier in 2025<\/a>, Cal Expo&#8217;s board voted to end its harness racing lease agreement.
