The 36-year-old was planning to resume his season in the Basque Country<\/a> this weekend, but the fates had other ideas.Roglic<\/a> posted on Instagram on Friday, showing a very large bruise on his leg following the incident.<\/p>\n “Got hit by a car few days ago,” Roglic wrote. “I won’t be participating in San Sebastian and in Burgos unfortunately… not the best scenario, but it’s life, eh.<\/p>\n “Now it’s all systems go towards La Vuelta, we work and hope things will turn around!”<\/p>\n Roglic is set to leave the Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe team at the end of the 2026 season with his big priority this year the Vuelta.<\/p>\n In a stellar career, he has enjoyed immense success at the race, winning it on four occasions, in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2024.<\/p>\n Roglic also won the Giro d’Italia in 2023 and finished in second place in the Tour de France in 2020. <\/p>\n He also claimed Olympic glory in the delayed Tokyo Games of 2021, winning gold in the men’s individual time trial.<\/p>\n The 2026 Vuelta will start with an individual time trial in Monaco on August 22. The three-week spectacular will conclude in Granada on September 13.<\/p>\n It is still not known whether cycling great Tadej Pogacar, who won an historic fifth Tour de France title in Paris last weekend<\/a>, will compete at the Vuelta.<\/p>\n Race director Javier Guillen told Spanish newspaper AS that “this is the best year” for the UAE Team Emirates-XRG star to compete.<\/p>\n When asked whether he believed Pogacar would be at the Vuelta, Guillen said: “Hopefully. The latest information we have comes from Prince Albert. The rider would like to come.<\/p>\n “If Tadej Pogacar comes to the Vuelta, it’s certainly to win it; he won’t come any other way.<\/p>\n “I, as the Vuelta director, am very optimistic that he can come.
