Jordan Spieth continues to thrill and frustrate his fans in equal measure.<\/p>\n

Spieth posted an opening-round 68 at the Rocket Classic on Thursday, and he needs a really strong finish this week to force his way inside the top 50 of the FedEx Cup standings.<\/p>\n

The 33-year-old from Dallas has really struggled with his game over the past few years and he is without a win since April 2022.<\/p>\n

Jordan Spieth<\/a> has struggled to replicate the form that he showed during his first few years on tour when he won three major championships.<\/p>\n

While he may never reach those heights again, he certainly should be contending for trophies more than he has been of late.<\/p>\n

The three-time major champion will have entered the Rocket Classic<\/a> with ambitions of rediscovering his winning touch.<\/p>\n

However, with every week that passes, Spieth returning to the PGA Tour winners\u2019 circle seems more and more unlikely.<\/p>\n

Jordan Spieth must react to wakeup call despite shooting 68 at the Rocket Classic<\/p>\n

Spieth withdrew from the 3M Open<\/a> last week in order to recharge his batteries ahead of the busy schedule that lies in front of him.<\/p>\n

And his ball-striking was in fine fettle during his opening round of 68, ranking 24th in strokes gained off the tee and 36th in strokes gained approach.<\/p>\n

Spieth gained just over two strokes on the field from tee-to-green on Thursday at the Rocket Classic, and his swing had a fantastic flow and rhythm to it.<\/p>\n

However, his putting let him down badly once again.<\/p>\n

Spieth was ranked 95th in strokes gain putting on day one at the Detroit Golf Club after losing 0.742 strokes to the field on the greens.<\/p>\n

That is nothing new for the 13-time PGA Tour winner.<\/p>\n

He has desperately struggled with his putter for years now and hasn\u2019t been ranked inside the top 50 in strokes gain putting since the 2020\/21 season.<\/p>\n

Surely now it\u2019s time for a change.<\/p>\n

Jordan Spieth must try a new putter to save his career<\/p>\n

Spieth\u2019s struggles with his putter have reached a point where he is struggling to break par, regardless of how well he strikes the ball.<\/p>\n

Now he has to react to his latest wakeup call at the Rocket Classic and make a switch to more of a face-balanced mallet-type putter.<\/p>\n

The interesting thing is that Spieth may only need to use the putter for a couple of tournaments or so.<\/p>\n

He needs to take advantage of the honeymoon period that so many golfers enjoy while trialling new putters.<\/p>\n

The Texan just needs to remember what it\u2019s like to see his ball drop in the hole and then go from there.<\/p>\n

Regardless of what the numbers show him from testing mallet putters, a switch is now an absolute necessity.<\/p>\n

What is the worst that could happen? He\u2019s putting terribly as it is, so he has nothing to lose and everything to gain.<\/p>\n

Jordan Spieth needs to switch putters urgently if he is to have any chance of returning to the PGA Tour winners\u2019 circle.<\/p>\n
