rugby league<\/a> which I enjoy and I\u2019ve loved playing since I was a little kid, so I don\u2019t want to go out there and make it any less enjoyable.<\/p>\n“I guess winning is a lot more fun. When you\u2019re playing and you\u2019re winning, it\u2019s a lot better than when you\u2019re losing.<\/p>\n
But I love the game and the game has given me everything. I just go in every week to compete and to try and win but if you don\u2019t and you can look yourself in the mirror and say that you know you had a crack, then I\u2019m pretty happy with that as well. That\u2019s how I look at it.”<\/p>\n
On his form this year, May is content and is targeting a big end to the year. He continued: “I thought I started the season pretty decent, but probably after the Challenge Cup final, there were a few hiccups there personally.<\/p>\n
“It’s nothing through anything other than not playing well enough. So hopefully I can find my feet again and get this team going again.<\/p>\n
“There\u2019s a lot of weight on my shoulders but I\u2019m up for the challenge. My standards are pretty high. I judge myself harsher than anyone; probably the second is Willie (Peters), but we have a good way of how we review games and how we approach the next ones.<\/p>\n
“I know my job is to lead the team around and make sure that we\u2019re following in attack and then just being a voice in defence.”<\/p>\n
Asked if he feels that responsibility, particularly with Mikey Lewis still suspended, May said: “Yes and no. As the more senior spine members at the moment, Jez (Litten) and I, we probably have the weight on our shoulders, but it\u2019s only in theory.<\/p>\n
“The boys who are in there can do their job and we have full trust in them to do their job. I think, for us, it\u2019s about being more simple than ever: rugby league is not a really difficult game.<\/p>\n
“You\u2019ve got to put the ball over the white line more than the other team.
