{"id":72231,"date":"2025-08-17T00:15:07","date_gmt":"2025-08-17T00:15:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/72231\/"},"modified":"2025-08-17T00:15:07","modified_gmt":"2025-08-17T00:15:07","slug":"uae-skywatchers-prepare-for-rare-total-lunar-eclipse-supermoons-and-meteor-showers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/72231\/","title":{"rendered":"UAE skywatchers prepare for rare total lunar eclipse, supermoons and meteor showers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-0-AXDJIEGCEJHDHEFSWT6SP4LNXI\">The remaining months of the year will bring a series of dazzling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/future\/space\/2024\/12\/26\/uaes-cosmic-calendar-the-best-night-sky-events-in-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/future\/space\/2024\/12\/26\/uaes-cosmic-calendar-the-best-night-sky-events-in-2025\/\">celestial events<\/a> to the UAE, from a total lunar eclipse to three supermoons in a row.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-1-B2QS6UHHLJDSHE2P5NYOPJJTPU\">The first half of the year was quiet for skywatchers, with only a handful of minor events to light up the sky.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-3-D7XTB4EATJGGHBNSRMHXSINF5I\">Even the much-anticipated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/future\/space\/2025\/08\/12\/fireball-perseids-meteor-shower-to-peak-tonight-in-uae-skies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/future\/space\/2025\/08\/12\/fireball-perseids-meteor-shower-to-peak-tonight-in-uae-skies\/\">Perseids meteor shower <\/a>this week was dimmed because of a bright full Moon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-4-MEKC6YWYNNH7NITPOBMCHQGH7E\">\u201cThe next half of 2025 is going to be spectacular for stargazers \u2026 It\u2019s going to be a fantastic few months under the stars,\u201d Khadijah Ahmed, operations manager at the Dubai Astronomy Group, told The National.<\/p>\n<p>Rare total lunar eclipse <\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-6-RNRSILRWTVE43IR2PG6NN4ITNI\">Next month, the Moon will pass completely into Earth\u2019s shadow, on the night of September 7, creating a rare total lunar eclipse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-8-SEP6IOLM55A6BOAJJWDZRDURZQ\">Often called a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/uae\/2022\/11\/09\/moon-turns-blood-red-during-lunar-eclipse-in-remarkable-montage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/uae\/2022\/11\/09\/moon-turns-blood-red-during-lunar-eclipse-in-remarkable-montage\/\">Blood Moon<\/a> because of its coppery-red hue, it will be visible across the UAE and will be the longest event of its kind since 2022. The total eclipse will occur at 9.30pm GST and last for about 20 minutes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-9-VF73MPTSANHTVBI6MNAG3RMDZE\">Ms Ahmed said it will be one of the most striking lunar events in recent years and can be enjoyed without any special equipment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-11-Z4Q3CL2LYVDFPOFSHEMX2JRNSE\">\u201cThis is one of the rare astronomical events happening in the UAE in 2025,\u201d she said. \u201cWe will host an event for the eclipse and encourage everyone to witness it. You don\u2019t need any special equipment \u2013 just go outside and look up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-12-6XGOUDUYL5D4PKWRUJYDDJWDDU\">The eclipse will also be visible in other parts of Asia, Australia, Africa and Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Supermoon season<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-14-BHQGLZKBAJC3FLPEUAMQSLWBFE\">Supermoon season will follow soon after, with three back-to-back appearances in October, November and December. <\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-15-I2W5OIEE7BGILIQSY3QK2M55NI\">These take place when a full moon coincides with the Moon\u2019s closest point to Earth in its orbit, making it appear brighter and slightly larger than usual.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-16-DQN57IXUIRGO5BYINJX7PDJ43E\">The first will rise on October 7, known as the Hunter\u2019s Moon, followed by the Beaver Moon on November 5 and the Cold Moon on December 4. <\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-17-3UWXIPZMDNGALDA3DKXRQTSBZ4\">All three will be visible across the UAE, with moonrise just after sunset providing opportunities for photography and outdoor viewing.<\/p>\n<p>Meteor showers<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-19-CD47O7ZAOJDTLB5SJWEGHMAKYA\">The Orionids meteor shower will light up the skies on October 21 and 22, followed by the Leonids on November 17 and 18.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-20-J7KJX7NKUJCJ3NQSFWBGC6PHVQ\">Geminids will be the final meteor shower of the year, peaking on December 13 and 14.
