A PROPOSED new health centre has reached an \u201cimportant milestone\u201d, bosses have said.<\/p>\n
A planning application has now been submitted for the long-awaited development on the former youth centre site in Burntwood.<\/p>\n
As well as the health centre, the development will also see a new care home and sports pitches on the land if the proposals are approved.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board (ICB) said:<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Burntwood Health Centre project has reached an important milestone with the submission of the planning application.<\/p>\n
\u201cLocal healthcare services are currently provided from Salters Meadow Health Centre, a temporary facility on the Burntwood Leisure Centre site and the Darwin branch practice in Chasetown. These will be replaced with the new facility as a priority to improve local healthcare services.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe site will also house NHS community-based health services, which will allow teams to work more closely together and provide more joined-up, accessible care for local residents.\u201d<\/p>\n
The ICB said the planning application had been submitted in line with an updated \u201ctarget timeline\u201d published earlier this year.<\/p>\n
The organisation added:<\/p>\n
\u201cLichfield District Council will now consider the submission and determine the outcome. Members of the public will also have the opportunity to comment.<\/p>\n
\u201cShould planning permission be granted, the next stage will be to obtain competitive prices from building contractors for the construction of the health centre.\u201d<\/p>\n
