After swinging onto our screens back in 2016, Tom Holland quickly proved himself a worthy successor to the previous two Spider-Man stars. His authentic portrayal of both Peter Parker and the titular superhero in the Marvel reboot has led to four hugely popular movies over the last decade.

The latest instalment in the franchise, Spiderman: Brand New Day, was released this week, with Holland reprising his critically-acclaimed role. His performance has once again opened up the discussion of which alter ego he plays best.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy at the UK movie premiere in London, Brand New Day boss Amy Pascal weighed in on the debate. When asked if her favourite part of the movie was seeing the star as Spider-Man or Peter, she replied: “Watching him as Peter Parker.”

Reflecting on the initial audition process, the producer added: “We knew the first time we screen-tested him [Holland] that he was our Peter Parker.”

Brand New Day picks up four years after the events of No Way Home, which saw Spider-Man’s real identity revealed to the world. Dr Strange casts a spell to make everyone forget who Peter is, but this unfortunately includes his loved ones.

In the new movie, Peter resumes his superhero duties while navigating the loneliness of his anonymity. But as always, there’s another villain in the city who threatens to destroy everything and everyone he holds dear.

Speaking about how Peter has matured off-screen in the last few years, Pascal shared that the beloved character hasn’t changed too much.

“[Fans] have grown up with these movies and Tom. He still has all the same qualities. He just has different problems [in the new movie],” she said.

Elsewhere, Pascal also serves as a producer on the animated Spider-Verse franchise, which centres around Miles Morales’ Spider-Man. The third instalment, Beyond the Spider-Verse, is set to be released in 2027, following a number of delays.

Pascal remained tight-lipped about the upcoming movie, simply teasing: “I can’t tell you anything but it’s fantastic, and it comes out next summer.”

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is out now in cinemas.
