We’re obviously all eagerly awaiting the release of Gears of War: E-Day<\/a> later in 2026, but before we get there, we thought we’d take a quick look back at the most recent entry in the series – August 2025’s Gears of War: Reloaded<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In all honesty, we were a little underwhelmed by the idea of revisiting Gears of War 1 all over again with Reloaded last year, as it seemed like there hadn’t been many changes compared to the Ultimate Edition<\/a> and it was essentially being made to give PlayStation owners a special debut for Gears on the PS5.<\/p>\n

However, when it released, we still went as far as giving it an “Excellent” 9\/10 in our review<\/a>:<\/p>\n

“Gears of War: Reloaded is an excellent game. Sure, it’s quite basic compared to modern Gears games and sure, the core of the experience is very similar to Gears of War: Ultimate Edition – but I still think this release was a worthwhile endeavour, and then some. PS5 players joining the party means that Gears 1 multiplayer will remain alive and thriving, and those quality-of-life improvements to online play are also a massive win in my eyes.”<\/p>\n

I can’t personally say I’ve ever been a massive Gears fan (fortunately we’ve got other members of the Pure Xbox<\/a> team who definitely are!), but it feels like the hype around Reloaded died pretty quickly following its release.<\/p>\n

The game still has its fans for sure, and it’s certainly the way I’d prefer to play Gears 1<\/a> above all other versions, but I also question whether the somewhat minimal changes limited its staying power with Xbox and PC users in particular.<\/p>\n
