A retirement match may have taken place at WWE SummerSlam 2026 night one today, Saturday, August 1 emanating from Minneapolis.<\/p>\n

Nick Aldis made his WWE in-ring debut at SummerSlam today, entering to Oasis for his match against GUNTHER.<\/p>\n

Aldis, a former World Heavyweight Champion in both TNA and the NWA, joined WWE in 2023 but hadn\u2019t wrestled for the company until tonight.<\/p>\n

He started out in a backstage role as a producer before then becoming a TV personality as the General Manager of SmackDown<\/a> while resuming his producer duties as well.<\/p>\n

Tonight was his first ever WWE match and his first match overall in close to three years.<\/p>\n

Notably, Aldis was billed as the National Treasure and made his entrance to Morning Glory by Oasis \u2013 a rare instance of WWE licensing a mainstream song to be used as an entrance theme.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Throughout the match, which went about 11 minutes, there were repeated \u201cYou\u2019ve still got it\u201d chants from the crowd directed towards Aldis.<\/p>\n

Aldis\u2019 wife, WWE legend Mickie James, was at ringside and featured as GUNTHER got in her face mid-match.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, despite it being an impressive outing from Aldis and an even match, it was GUNTHER who picked up the win with the sleeper hold as Aldis tapped out.<\/p>\n

James and their son Donovan got in the ring with Aldis after the match as he was once again serenaded by \u201cYou\u2019ve still got it\u201d chants and Oasis\u2019 Morning Glory.<\/p>\n

Commentary on numerous occasions alluded to the possibility of GUNTHER ending another career tonight and this potentially being Aldis\u2019 final match<\/a>, though it wasn\u2019t outright confirmed that that\u2019s the case.<\/p>\n

It was certainly something that was mentioned as a heavy possibility though, and would obviously play into GUNTHER\u2019s run as the \u2018Career Killer.\u2019<\/p>\n

Another WWE Career Ended By GUNTHER?<\/p>\n

Nick Aldis potentially becomes the latest name added to the list of those who have been retired over the past year-plus by GUNTHER.<\/p>\n

GUNTHER has defeated Goldberg, John Cena<\/a> and AJ Styles in their final WWE matches, and now Nick Aldis might be in the same boat.<\/p>\n

There was no outright confirmation that this was Aldis\u2019 last match, but GUNTHER did speak in the build-up about how ending Aldis\u2019 career was his plan.<\/p>\n

Aldis also said in interviews leading up to WWE SummerSlam that he was treating this as a one-off match and hadn\u2019t heard that there was anything planned beyond tonight.<\/p>\n

He proved tonight that he can still go in the ring, so there\u2019s no reason why he can\u2019t wrestle some more, but his excellent performances as SmackDown General Manager, and the fact it adds to GUNTHER\u2019s retirement record, means this being his final WWE match \u2013 despite it being his first \u2013 might be the way things pan out.<\/p>\n
