{"id":72411,"date":"2025-08-17T02:18:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-17T02:18:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/72411\/"},"modified":"2025-08-17T02:18:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-17T02:18:11","slug":"wakefield-trinity-not-consulted-over-salford-red-devils-fixture-cancellation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/72411\/","title":{"rendered":"Wakefield Trinity not consulted over Salford Red Devils&#8217; fixture cancellation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img width=\"2400\" height=\"1600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/AW7_5835.jpg\" class=\"attachment- size- wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"  \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Wakefield Trinity have released a statement in light of their fixture against Salford Red Devils being cancelled, confirming that they were only made aware of that decision \u201cbriefly\u201d before statements were shared online.<\/p>\n<p>Salford <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seriousaboutrl.com\/salford-red-devils-release-statement-as-wakefield-trinity-fixture-called-off-107419\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Red Devils shared their own statement at 5:30 pm on Friday<\/a> night as they announced that the planned Super League Round 22 fixture against Wakefield would not go ahead.<\/p>\n<p>The Red Devils cited player welfare for the reason behind the cancellation with just two of their possible 17-man squad for the game against Wakefield having Super League experience.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seriousaboutrl.com\/rugby-league-news-rfl-release-statement-following-salford-red-devils-decision-to-call-off-wakefield-trinity-fixture-107420\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Another statement followed shortly after from the RFL<\/a> to confirm the cancellation and explain that the outcome will be determined \u2018early next week in line with the RFL Operational Rules\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Incredibly, Wakefield have now claimed that they were only made aware of the game being cancelled just before those statements were published with Trinity seemingly not at the table for the discussions around cancelling the game.<\/p>\n<p>Wakefield Trinity release statement after Salford Red Devils cancellation<\/p>\n<p>A statement released last night saw the club address fans and outline when further updates will come and how fans can be refunded, however, the key line was the revelation that Trinity were not consulted.<\/p>\n<p>That part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/wakefieldtrinity.com\/statement-salford-red-devils-fixture\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">statement<\/a> read: \u201cWe would like to confirm that we were only made aware of Salford\u2019s situation and the plan to cancel the game briefly before the statements, which fans will have seen online, were published.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daryl <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seriousaboutrl.com\/rugby-league-news-wakefield-trinity-players-briefed-ahead-of-salford-red-devils-protest-107373\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Powell had spoken earlier in the week<\/a> to the press explaining that there had been no communication and that preparation was as normal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe haven\u2019t had any communication either way,\u201d he revealed, adding: \u201cWe are just getting on with it. I don\u2019t think we can even worry about that; it\u2019ll come when it comes, if there is a decision. As far as I am aware, we are playing on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur prep has been great and the boys have trained class today. We\u2019ve done a lot of 13-on-13, really intense and we are in a great place.
