Limerick boxer Lee Reeves has been hospitalised after a heavy knockout in defeat to Gary Cully on Saturday night at the 3Arena in Dublin.<\/p>\n
Cully claimed the BUI Celtic super-lightweight title in a thrilling fight which ended with Reeves going down in the 10th round.<\/p>\n
Reeves had been on top before the dramatic conclusion.<\/p>\n
Both fighters sustained lots of punishment in the fight, which was the third of evening in front of a large crowd at the Dublin venue.<\/p>\n
The 31-year-old was stretchered from the ring after staying down in the aftermath of the final punch.<\/p>\n
Cully was immediately concerned for his opponent, saying aftewards: “My prayers and thoughts are with Lee Reeves, hopefully he’s okay.<\/p>\n
“He came in there as a big underdog after fighting relatively at a lower level up until now, but he really showed that he can operate at a higher level. Huge credit to him.”<\/p>\n
A statement from the promoter of fight, Frank Warren, read: “All our thoughts and prayers are with Lee Reeves and his family at this time as he remains in hospital.<\/p>\n
“Everyone at Queensberry is thinking of him and we’re in constant contact with his team regarding his condition as we hope for positive news.”<\/p>\n
