The Culture Club singer, 65, sparked backlash this week after releasing a song, titled \u05e2\u05d5\u05d3 \u05e0\u05e8\u05e7\u05d5\u05d3 in Hebrew and \u201cWe Will Dance Again\u201d in English, which defends Israel\u2019s military action in Palestine and refutes the idea that a genocide in being carried out in Gaza. <\/p>\n
On Saturday, Boy George revealed that he had quit the role of King Herod in Jesus Christ Superstar <\/a>over the controversy and now, the fallout continues \u2013 with the singer cutting ties with his record label manager. <\/p>\n Taking to X, the singer wrote on Saturday 1 August: \u201cIn Buddhism we understand that every action comes with a consequence. Due to my decision to stand up for my Jewish friends I am losing a few people from my life. <\/p>\n \u201cToday I parted company with Tony Pontius who has run my record label BGP for a number of years. I wanted to release \u201cWe Will Dance Again\u201d but he was unequivocal and said \u201dI want nothing to do with this song\u201d and I responded \u201cok, we are done\u201d. <\/p>\n \u201cWhen someone is gutless it really does not hurt to say goodbye. My faith in humanity will not diminish and the truth will always win. I will release it!\u201d<\/p>\n The Independent has contacted Tony Pontius and BGP\u2019s parent company Hottwerk for comment.<\/p>\n The controversial song is currently unavailable on streaming services, with Boy George telling fans to purchase it on music distributor Bandcamp. \u201cYou can buy it, it\u2019s cheap,\u201d he told his Instagram followers on Saturday. \u201cI really want the song to be out there and be heard and be played in cars and bars and people\u2019s houses, out the window. Wherever it can be played really. <\/p>\n \u201cNot everyone\u2019s happy with it. I will be re-recording the song myself in the next few days and singing it very proudly,\u201d he said, before adding: \u201cF*** the haters.\u201d<\/p>\n Since announcing the track, Boy George has faced criticism over the song\u2019s lyrics, which appear to dismiss the idea of Israel committing genocide in Gaza and include the opening line: \u201cYou say genocide, I say war\/ When you\u2019re attacked, that\u2019s what the army\u2019s for\/ Does it get ugly? You bet it does\/ When I know you wanna kill every last one of us.\u201d<\/p>\n He also appears to criticise the pro-Palestine movement in the song, singing: \u201cYou condemn, with selective memory\/ Musicians holding flags, mouthing like sheep\/ Propaganda fuelled by the internet feels so weak.\u201d<\/p>\n
