Police have released new details about a mass shooting at an Idaho In-N-Out on Saturday<\/a>, a burst of violence that rattled the small city of Twin Falls<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The lone shooter died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks said at a Sunday afternoon news conference.<\/p>\n

Three people were killed in the shooting, and seven others were wounded. Authorities have not released the names of the victims, though In-N-Out<\/a> said one of the dead was an employee at the chain.<\/p>\n

Hicks said the investigation remains ongoing and that authorities are still working to piece together \u201cpossible motivations.\u201d The FBI<\/a>, which is assisting the case, has opened a tip portal.<\/p>\n

How did the violence unfold?<\/p>\n

Hicks walked through the timeline of the shooting and its aftermath, which he described as \u201cone of the most chaotic instances of what law enforcement officers encounter in their career.\u201d<\/p>\n

At 2:29 p.m. local time Saturday, 911 dispatchers<\/a> received multiple calls reporting shots fired near the Twin Falls In-N-Out, located on Blue Lakes Boulevard North. \u201cDispatchers could hear screaming,\u201d Hicks said.<\/p>\n

Officers rushed to the scene and \u201cconverged\u201d on the restaurant, where unverified social media videos appeared to show the gunman firing a rifle in the parking lot and people running away from the area.<\/p>\n

Investigators have named the gunman as 24-year-old Chad Williams, but did not offer any further information on him.<\/p>\n

Police said that Williams died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. <\/p>\n

Hicks also condemned misinformation circulating on social media about the shooter\u2019s identity, saying that, to the best of his knowledge, Williams acted alone.<\/p>\n

Who are the victims?<\/p>\n

Police did not release the names of the three people killed or the seven wounded on Sunday. Earlier Saturday, a city spokesman told The Independent that three people had died and two had been wounded, while stressing that the toll was likely to rise.<\/p>\n

Of the injured, two have been released from the hospital, three are in stable condition and two remain in critical condition. <\/p>\n

Hicks acknowledged the toll the shooting has taken on Twin Falls, a community of about 56,000 people, located roughly 130 miles southeast of Boise<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cTogether our community will get through this,\u201d he said. \u201cRemain Twin Falls strong, and support each other.\u201d<\/p>\n

One witness earlier described seeing a woman in an In-N-Out uniform bleeding from a gunshot wound to the chest. Another worker dragged her across the parking lot, where paramedics later treated her.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was pretty bad off, but I don’t know. I hope she made it,\u201d the witness said.<\/p>\n

In a separate statement Saturday, Lynsi Snyder, president of In-N-Out, confirmed that one of the restaurant\u2019s associates had died.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe lost one of our beautiful Associates tonight,\u201d she wrote in a social media post<\/a>. \u201cShe was taking care of our most important asset – our Customers, and her life was taken by a disgusting human who doesn\u2019t value the lives of others or his own.\u201d<\/p>\n

Off-duty cop and passerby hailed as heroes<\/p>\n

Police say that an off-duty state trooper and passerby engaged the gunman as the violence unfolded and prevented even greater loss of life.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe their actions helped drive the suspect away from the scene, preventing further casualties,\u201d Hall told reporters.<\/p>\n

Later in the Sunday briefing, Robert Bohls, special agent in charge of the FBI\u2019s Salt Lake City office, said the bureau is \u201cworking tirelessly to support the investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n

He urged anyone with information to contact the agency through its tip portal<\/a>, where the public can submit photos and videos related to the shooting.<\/p>\n

Idaho\u2019s governor and representatives in Congress said on Saturday that they were monitoring the situation and keeping the Twin Falls community in their prayers.<\/p>\n

So far in 2026, there have been 332 mass shootings<\/a> in the U.S., according to the Mass Shooter Tracker, which defines mass shootings as instances in which four or more people are shot.<\/p>\n
