Manchester United manager Marc Skinner has left his position by mutual consent before the start of the Women’s Super League season. <\/p>\n

The 43-year-old has been in charge of United for five years and led them to their first major trophy with victory in the Women’s FA Cup final in 2024.<\/a><\/p>\n

He helped them reach the Women’s Champions League group stages for the first time last year, while they finished runners-up in three domestic cup finals.<\/p>\n

Skinner’s departure comes a month before the start of the season with United set to travel to London City Lionesses on 4 September (19:00 BST).<\/p>\n

The former Birmingham City head coach has raised concerns over a lack of investment in the squad and United have had a quiet summer.<\/p>\n

United have changed their recruitment approach this year, targeting younger players in the hope of securing sustainable, long-term success.<\/p>\n

BBC Sport reported in July<\/a> that the girls’ academy will train at Carrington – the club’s main training facility – this season.<\/p>\n

However, supporters have grown frustrated at the lack of spending in the transfer window with rivals Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea adding to their squads.<\/p>\n

London City Lionesses, who finished fifth last season, signed two-time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas<\/a>, while Lyon defender Alice Sombath joined Tottenham.<\/p>\n

It is understood the club and Skinner held discussions in the summer and a mutual agreement for his departure was reached.<\/p>\n

Sources at the club say they are advanced in their search for a replacement with background checks on potential candidates already completed.<\/p>\n
