The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued an amber heat health alert for the East Midlands<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It is in place from 9am on Monday 3 August until 9am on Wednesday 5 August and replaces a less severe yellow alert which was previously in place.<\/p>\n

Temperatures are expected to reach 30C in some parts of the region.<\/p>\n

The UKHSA is warning of possible \u201csignificant impacts\u201d on health and social care services, including a rise in deaths among those aged 65 and over or people with health conditions, and an increase in drownings<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Dr Anya Gopfert, a consultant in health protection at UKHSA, said: “We know that even moderate heat can lead to serious health problems, especially for older people and those with certain health conditions, so it\u2019s important that everyone takes simple precautions while enjoying the warm weather over the coming days.<\/p>\n

“If you have friends, family or neighbours who are more vulnerable, it is important to check in on them and ensure they are aware of the forecasts and are following the necessary advice.”<\/p>\n

It comes after July was recorded as being 3C above average across the UK, according to provisional Met Office data on the month so far.<\/p>\n

Less severe yellow alerts have been issued for the West Midlands, which was declared as being officially in drought<\/a> last week.<\/p>\n

While less serious, yellow alerts mean significant impacts on health and social care services are possible.<\/p>\n
