\n\t\u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day<\/a>\u201d will (finally!) swing to Imax<\/a> on Aug. 6. <\/p>\n

\n\tSony and Marvel\u2019s web-slinging adventure didn\u2019t play on the company\u2019s premium screens during its first few days in theaters because Christopher Nolan\u2019s \u201cThe Odyssey\u201d commanded the network\u2019s entire domestic footprint for three weekends. Now that \u201cThe Odyssey\u2019s\u201d exclusive run is ending, Imax is able to schedule other blockbusters in its coveted auditoriums. <\/p>\n

\n\tThat being said, Nolan\u2019s Greek epic will retain most of the company\u2019s screens. \u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day\u201d will share the Imax global network with \u201cThe Odyssey\u201d across select digital locations. Meanwhile \u201cThe Odyssey\u201d will continue to play across all 41 of the company\u2019s 70mm film locations around the world. So far, \u201cThe Odyssey\u201d has generated a staggering $221 million globally in Imax \u2014 and that\u2019s before the blockbuster has landed in major overseas markets like China, South Korea and Japan. <\/p>\n

\n\tOf course, \u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day\u201d is already doing quite well at the box office without Imax. The superhero adventure, starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker, launched to a jaw-dropping $927 million globally<\/a>, including $355 million domestically and $572 million internationally. Since \u201cThe Odyssey\u201d has yet to premiere in certain territories in Asia, the newest Spidey adventure was able to screen in Imax across China, Japan and South Korea, delivering a combined $23 million.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSpider-Man has been among the most bankable superheroes at the global box office for over two decades \u2014 with\u00a0the franchise delivering\u00a0$365\u00a0million in Imax receipts\u00a0to date\u00a0\u2014 and\u00a0\u2018Brand New\u00a0Day\u2019\u00a0is taking that legacy to new heights with its record-breaking opening weekend,\u201d said Rich Gelfond, CEO of Imax. \u201cWe believe\u00a0more\u00a0Spidey fans around the world will want to experience his latest adventure in Imax \u2014 and we hope to be a major driver of both new and repeat viewing for the latest hit in this incredible year for moviegoing.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThanks to the all-out frenzy around \u201cThe Odyssey,\u201d Imax achieved its highest-grossing month in history with $257 million globally in July \u2014 47% above its previous record. \u201cThe Odyssey,\u201d the first feature shot entirely with Imax cameras, became the company\u2019s fastest film to surpass $200 million. It ranks as Imax\u2019s third-highest grossing release to date. And the benchmarks will keep coming because Imax plans to keep scheduling \u201cThe Odyssey\u201d through at least Sept. 17.<\/p>\n
