We head into the heart of the fourth season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds with the third episode arriving this week. We have details, new photos, and cast commentary. There be spoilers ahead.<\/p>\n

\u201cHuman Best Friend\u201d<\/p>\n

This week\u2019s episode is titled \u201cHuman Best Friend,\u201d and it has been described as \u201ca romp<\/a>.\u201d It was written by Kathryn Lyn, who has also written for Star Trek: Lower Decks. It\u2019s helmed by Yana Gorskaya, an Emmy-winning director best known for her work in comedy. Fun will commence on Thursday, August 6.<\/p>\n

Shore leave on a pleasure planet turns dangerous when the crew\u2019s promised escape stops behaving like fun.<\/p>\n

Cast commentary<\/p>\n

Members of the cast spoke about this episode in our roundtable interview<\/a> posted ahead of the season. Rebecca Romijn and Anson Mount dropped some minor spoilers.<\/p>\n

Rebecca Romijn:\u00a0I think just to get a shore leave episode where you see us \u2014 I mean, we say at the beginning of the season everyone needs a weekend. We\u2019re all feeling stressed and overworked, and so it sets up perfectly for this shore leave episode where we get to see a completely different side of the crew, letting loose and going to this planet where the gasses make them all inebriated. And everyone\u2019s inebriated in a very different way from one another. No, I did not get to pick the song. It was originally scripted with a different song, which they couldn\u2019t afford. I was thrilled with \u2018Total Eclipse of the Heart.\u201d It felt a little overwhelming because I know there are at least 20 people in the world who speak Klingon fluently. So I worked with a dialect coach to make sure I got all the pronunciation correct and the translation correct. I recorded the song first and sang to playback. It was a challenge that was massive to me that I never knew I wanted, but I was really proud of myself. I loved it. I loved everything about it.<\/p>\n

Anson Mount: I tried to get them to tattoo Mike Tyson, but they wouldn\u2019t. They didn\u2019t go for that. For me, the one real scene that I have in that whole Alice in Wonderland episode\u2026 a lot of it was left up to interpretation because it was really just you know\u2026 they come they come to me, this is what\u2019s happening, I say \u2018Oh go get the shuttle\u2019 and they go get the shuttle. I just kind of had to go in there and play and figure out what what kind of a what kind of inebriated Pike I wanted to be, and I made the decision that he\u2019s the guy at the rave who wants to go to the chill tent and hold your hand and talk. For better or worse, that was my decision, and I went with it.<\/p>\n
