Marvel Studios released \u201cThe Fantastic Four: First Steps\u201d last Summer to a relatively lukewarm response, along with so-so box-office.<\/p>\n

Costing $181 million net to produce, the film ultimately made $521.9 million worldwide \u2013 that\u2019s the highest-grossing \u201cFantastic Four\u201d film to date and the best of last year\u2019s three MCU films, but not remotely in \u201cSpider-Man\u201d or \u201cDeadpool\u201d league.<\/p>\n

Talking with Variety<\/a> about the phenomenal box-office success of \u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day,\u201d he touched upon how the recent F4 failed to do the numbers Marvel had hoped for when asked about audiences getting tired of more of the same story:<\/p>\n

\u201cMany things can be true at once. I think last year\u2019s Fantastic Four looked and sounded like nothing that had been done in a superhero movie before, and it only [grossed] $521 million.<\/p>\n

Brand New Day is very directly a part four. It picks up right after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, and yet it tells a story that resonates. It\u2019s ultimately about loneliness, and the dangers of staying in our apartments by ourselves, looking at our phones. That resonates across cultures and across the globe right now.<\/p>\n

Asked if he thinks the excitement around the new \u201cSpider-Man\u201d film will translate into success for \u201cAvengers: Doomsday\u201d and other upcoming MCU fare, Feige says:<\/p>\n

\u201cFor \u2018Avengers: Doomsday\u2019 and \u2018X Men,\u2019 it bodes very well. When a shared universe works, these are the results.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day\u201d is in cinemas now, with \u201cAvengers: Doomsday\u201d opening December 18th. <\/p>\n
