Knowledge, Power\u00a0&amp; Alchemy through Craft<\/a>\u00a0opened\u00a0at\u00a0Dunfermline Carnegie\u00a0Library and Galleries\u00a0in March\u00a02025.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  It featured a range of arts and crafts from artists across Scotland as well as portraits of the 13 Scottish female artists in their studios by photographer Lydia Smith.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The featured artists are\u00a0Lise Bech,\u00a0Caroline Dear, Claire Heminsley, Fiona Hutchison, Ruth Elizabeth Jones, Gilly Langton, Jo McDonald, Susie Redman, Patricia Shone, Carol Sinclair, Amanda Simmons and Emma Louise Wilson.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\"\/>Susie Redman in her studio. (Image: Lydia Smith)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  There was a diverse range of work on show, including jewellery, pottery, art created from black glass powders, and ceramics.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The word hag, according to the Oxford Dictionary, is an offensive word for a woman who is considered to be old and unattractive. It was also used to refer to someone as a witch.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The exhibition sought to reclaim the word.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Now, Fife Contemporary are working with partners across Scotland to\u00a0tour this popular exhibition to\u00a0four\u00a0Scottish\u00a0arts\u00a0venues.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The exhibition will begin its tour at Inverness Museum and Gallery, travelling in turn to\u00a0Gracefield\u00a0Arts\u00a0Centre, Dumfries,\u00a0then\u00a0Kirkcudbright Galleries,\u00a0and concluding at The Dick\u00a0Institute,\u00a0Kilmarnock.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\"\/>Hag. Knowledge, Power &amp; Alchemy Through Craft during its launch in Dunfermline.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;The exhibition resonated deeply with local audiences and visitors, drawing over 12,700 people and far exceeding my expectations.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;As we move into this next phase, touring to four distinct venues across Scotland, I am eager to see how the work speaks to these spaces.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;This tour is a vital opportunity to continue reclaiming the &#8216;hag&#8217; narrative, transforming a historical symbol of deformation into a beacon of resilience, expertise, and the enduring power of mature creative practice.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Hag.
