Liverpool have no plans to sell Cody Gakpo, despite Tottenham expressing their interest in the 27-year-old Netherlands forward. <\/p>\n

Gakpo has four years left on his deal and Liverpool would not sanction a move without a direct replacement – although they have been linked with Bradley Barcola this summer, and the PSG star will not come cheap. <\/p>\n

Spurs have also been linked with Manchester City forward Savinho, with Roberto De Zerbi keen to improve Tottenham\u2019s attacking options. <\/p>\n

As captain, Bruno Guimaraes lifted the Carabao Cup at Wembley in March last year \u2013 the Magpies\u2019 first major domestic trophy in 70 years \u2013 having established himself as a talisman for fans who dared to believe once again.<\/p>\n

But Alexander Isak\u2019s controversial departure for Liverpool last season sparked something of a decline, and Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Howe himself have since departed this summer to leave the club in a state of flux.<\/p>\n

Guimaraes\u2019 departure would blow another sizeable hole in the squad and leave the new head coach \u2013 German Matthias Jaissle has been with the players since the weekend, but is yet to be formally announced \u2013 with a major task to mould together a new-look side before the season\u2019s opener against Liverpool on August 23.<\/p>\n

The Gunners are confident of finally singing the 28-year-old midfielder, whose future has been the subject of frenzied speculation for weeks ever since it emerged that he had indicated that he wanted to leave Tyneside for the Emirates Stadium.<\/p>\n

Guimaraes reported for duty at Newcastle\u2019s pre-season training camp in La Manga in Spain on Monday, just hours after Newcastle rejected an opening bid from Arsenal. <\/p>\n

It now appears that significant progress has been made with the Premier League champions closing in on a deal which would see them finally capture a man they have long coveted.<\/p>\n

Newcastle have known for months that they might have to make a decision over a player they did not want to sell, while holding a valuation \u2013 understood to be in the region of \u00a380m \u2013 at which business might have to be done.<\/p>\n

David Ornstein<\/a> reported earlier that Arsenal are nearing \u201ctotal agreement\u201d with Newcastle. The Magpies had rejected Arsenal\u2019s first bid out of hand. <\/p>\n

Bruno Guimaraes\u2019 versatility is key for Arsenal, particularly if Mikel Arteta plans to rotate Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi more this season than he did last campaign as well as further integrating Myles Lewis-Skelly as a midfielder rather than a full-back. <\/p>\n

Guimaraes would be able to slot into the deepest of Arsenal\u2019s three midfield roles, in the No 6, with Rice pushing further forward. Or, if Rice is rested, Guimaraes can push forward in the role of No 8 with Zubimendi or Lewis-Skelly anchoring. <\/p>\n

Arsenal fans may not see it too often over the first half of the season, but a combination of Guimaraes and Rice \u2013 with either Martin Odegaard or Eberechi Eze deployed at No 10 \u2013 would potentially be a mouthwatering one. <\/p>\n

On paper, Guimaraes and Rice do share a lot of the same strengths, they win back possession and progress the ball through midfield, but they compliment each other nicely too: while Rice is pure power and legs, Guimaraes brings incision and range. <\/p>\n
