Carl Rushworth (\u00a34.5m) has completed a permanent move from Brighton and Hove Albion to Coventry City.<\/p>\n

While neither club disclosed the transfer fee, multiple reports suggest Coventry have agreed an initial \u00a322.5m deal. This could rise to around \u00a330m through add-ons. <\/p>\n

Brighton have also secured both a sell-on clause and a buy-back option.<\/p>\n

RUSHWORTH\u2019S CAREER TO DATE<\/p>\n

Rushworth never made a senior appearance for the Seagulls, instead enjoying a string of largely successful loan spells elsewhere \u2013 the one exception being a curtailed temporary stint at Hull City when he was either injured or warming the bench:<\/p>\n

Rushworth established himself as one of the Championship\u2019s standout goalkeepers under Frank Lampard last season.<\/p>\n

Rushworth also swept the club\u2019s end-of-season awards, winning the Players\u2019 Player of the Year, Supporters\u2019 Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards.<\/p>\n

Rushworth\u2019s return removes any uncertainty over Coventry\u2019s goalkeeping position. <\/p>\n

The 25-year-old started all 46 Championship matches last season and looks set to remain Lampard\u2019s first-choice goalkeeper in the Premier League.<\/p>\n

HOW DOES RUSHWORTH COMPARE TO OTHER \u00a34.5M GOALKEEPERS?<\/p>\n

Rushworth enters a fairly competitive budget goalkeeper market.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re expecting seven shot-stoppers available at \u00a34.5m to start for their teams come Gameweek 1.<\/p>\n

Here are their teams, ranked by fixture difficulty<\/a> in the first six Gameweeks:<\/p>\n

Coventry rank low down, as you can see, with off-putting trips to Arsenal and Manchester City in the first three Gameweeks.<\/p>\n

However, there are two reasons why managers might consider him from the off\u2026<\/p>\n

GAMEWEEK 2 BENCH BOOST<\/p>\n

A Bench Boost in Gameweek 2<\/a> is one possible play in FPL this season. Coventry are at home to Hull City, arguably their most favourable fixture of 2026\/27.<\/p>\n

Rushworth could thus be a \u2018second\u2019 goalkeeper in FPL squads, boosted in Gameweek 2 and unused on either side of the Hull fixture.<\/p>\n

No playing \u00a34.0m goalkeeper exists in FPL at present.<\/p>\n

ROTATION WITH VERBRUGGEN?<\/p>\n

Rotating \u2018keepers is a practise that we don\u2019t see as much of in FPL these days but there is a decent pairing to be found with Rushworth and Brighton\u2019s Bart Verbruggen (\u00a34.5m).<\/p>\n

The Gameweek 1 fixture isn\u2019t ideal, but the Seagulls might fancy their chances of keeping out a Villa side very much in transition. Ollie Watkins (\u00a38.0m) will be late back from international duty in pre-season, too.<\/p>\n

If neither strategy appeals, names like Antonin Kinsky (\u00a34.5m) and Verbruggen are arguably better set-and-forget \u2018keepers than Rushworth in the \u00a34.5m bracket, as they are playing for more established Premier League clubs and enjoy better opening fixtures.<\/p>\n
