The crossover episode will see the return of iconic Brookside characters to mark the milestone and will look at where they are now, more than 20 years on.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Over the years, a number of families were at the centre of the biggest storylines &#8211; and as Brookside is making a special return in 2025, we wanted to take another look back at one of the show&#8217;s famous families and where they are now. Played by John McArdle, the character faced financial troubles, which saw him stage a burglary of his own home and later suffer with his mental health.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Leaving the soap in 1990, John went on to appear in episodes of Merseybeat, Heartbeat, Casualty, The Bill and Holby City. Earning the nickname Rod the Plod after joining the police force, his storyline also centred around his relationship with Diana. Whilst on the show, many will remember Jason turned on the Liverpool Christmas lights with co-stars Jenny Hesketh, Sunetra Sarker and Danny McCall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">But after leaving Brookside, Jason went on to work in another industry. Featuring in major storylines, Dean appeared on the show until it ended, becoming the longest-featured character.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The ECHO previously reported how in 2008, Dean Sullivan reportedly wanted to buy 13 houses on Brookside Close because he wanted to revive the show. In August 2011, he expressed his interest in returning to television screens as Jimmy Corkhill in another TV series, such as Corrie or EastEnders.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">More recently, in 2019, he directed The Importance of being Earnest at the Church of Our Lady and Saint Nicholas in Liverpool.
