Following his roles in Crime 101 and Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, Barry Keoghan has another project lined up in the shape of Lemonade. And now, ahead of its release next year, we have a first look at the Irish drama.<\/p>\n

The film is from writer-director Kim Bartley, and follows a teenager named Danny who prepares to leave the foster system as he approaches his 18th birthday. As he prepares to take a new step in his life, the teen reconnects with his former social worker, Josh.<\/p>\n

It has been confirmed that the drama will premiere at the 51st Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF<\/a>) next month, and we now have a couple of first-look images. They depict Keoghan, Lewis Brophy and Carla Tous, who play Josh, Danny and Mila respectively.<\/p>\n

“When teenager Danny makes a mistake that could derail his future, he unexpectedly reconnects with Josh, the social worker who once tried to help him but whose own mistakes drove them apart,” reads the logline (via British Council<\/a>).<\/p>\n

“When their paths cross again, Josh becomes both mentor and mirror, guiding Danny on his journey to manhood. Along the way Danny discovers that family is not always the one you are born into, but the one that believes in you when no one else will.”<\/p>\n

Billed as a “tender, uplifting story about first loves, second chances and the power of human connection”, Bartley’s debut feature has been described as “compassionate” while Brophy’s performance has been called a “breakout”.<\/p>\n

Keoghan, who is also known for his appearances in The Banshees of Inisherin and Saltburn, spent seven years in foster care with his brother during his teenage years, before he eventually lived with his grandmother.<\/p>\n

For that reason, the drama is a personal project for the Irish actor, with the star telling Variety<\/a>: “There are moments in Lemonade when I was like, ‘this is too to-the-bone.’ Honestly, it makes me emotional just chatting about it, but it’s beautiful.”<\/p>\n

Keoghan also recently starred alongside Harry Melling and Riley Keough in French drama<\/a> Butterfly Jam, while he will also portray Ringo Starr in Sam Mendes’s quadrilogy of films focusing on The Beatles.<\/p>\n

Lemonade will premiere at the 51st Toronto International Film Festival in September. <\/p>\n
