{"id":728692,"date":"2026-08-05T21:56:15","date_gmt":"2026-08-05T21:56:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/728692\/"},"modified":"2026-08-05T21:56:15","modified_gmt":"2026-08-05T21:56:15","slug":"consultation-opens-on-sewage-outfall-plan-off-exmouth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/728692\/","title":{"rendered":"Consultation opens on sewage outfall plan off Exmouth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A seven-week consultation into an area discharging treated wastewater permanently from Exmouth&#8217;s sewage treatment works has launched.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Environment Agency (EA) said South West Water had applied to change its environmental permits to permanently use a new outfall about 300m (985ft) south of Straight Point, Exmouth, Devon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The water company said the outfall would discharge treated wastewater and, during periods of heavy rainfall, it could also disperse settled storm sewage. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The EA said it had been given conditional temporary permission to operate to reduce the risk of pollution to Exmouth Beach and the Exe Estuary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The agency said SWW still needed to change its environmental permits to use it permanently and would need to show its proposals met environmental standards, complied with EA policy that it and protected people, wildlife and designated sites.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The EA said the permit variations were open for consultation and people could send comments using its website.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A seven-week consultation into an area discharging treated wastewater permanently from Exmouth&#8217;s sewage treatment works has launched.
