If there\u2019s one takeaway so far, it\u2019s that this might be a year with few upgrades, and in some ways, there will be downgrades (Ex: RAM).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is at least one new item, though, and it\u2019ll be a way for us to unplug a bit from our screens and rely instead on lighting. The new Pixel HiLight \u2013 previously \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.droid-life.com\/tag\/pixel-glow\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pixel Glow<\/a>\u201d \u2013 will be baked into the Pixel 11 Pro series camera bar and provide notification customization, as well as some Gemini integration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, new details for this new Pixel HiLight were shared and we sort of know now how it might work too.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thanks to an update to the Google Contacts app, behind-the-scenes strings of code have revealed some of HiLight\u2019s settings. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As you\u2019ll see below, there are strings that specifically refer to this feature as \u201cHiLight.\u201d There are additional lines that suggest configuring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.droid-life.com\/2026\/07\/31\/pixel-11-series-pixel-glow-might-not-be-called-that\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">HiLight<\/a> for your favorite callers, with a \u201ccustom glow color for when they call.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>HiLight<br \/>Tap to configure HiLight for favorite callers<br \/>All contacts<br \/>Dismiss this suggestion for all contacts or only this contact?<br \/>This contact<br \/>Assign a custom glow color for when they call<br \/>&#8220;Set %s&#8217;s HiLight&#8221;<br \/>Add a notification color<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A deeper look reveals that this colored light embedded in the camera bar can show Blue, Cyan, Green, Orange, Pink, Purple, Teal, White, and Yellow. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.droid-life.com\/2026\/07\/15\/google-confirms-pixel-11-and-surprise-pixel-glow-feature\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Teasers from Google show off this light<\/a> and its ability to glow in multi-color, so while you can set these specific colors for contacts, it\u2019s clear that this light will do much more than pulse a single color.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It could be that Google will only show the multi-color seen above when you activate Gemini and your phone is face-down. That would be unfortunate, as the multi-color light looks gorgeous on the phone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now, it would be surprising if Google limited HiLight to only working with your favorite contacts.
