We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.<\/p>\n<p>Your support makes all the difference.Read more<\/p>\n<p>There is no link between receiving the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/health\/measles-outbreak-vaccines-rfk-jr-trump-b3026600.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine<\/a> before age 2 and being diagnosed with <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/health\/autism-spectrum-test-aspergers-diagnosis-b2993890.html\">autism<\/a>, according to a new <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/42520244\/\">study<\/a> of more than 2.5 million U.S. children.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese results reinforce existing evidence supporting the safety of MMR vaccination,\u201d the medical research scientists, from University of Washington, wrote last week. The research supports decades of work with similar results, including by the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/groups\/global-advisory-committee-on-vaccine-safety\/topics\/mmr-vaccines-and-autism\">World Health Organization<\/a>, which said earlier this year there was <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news\/item\/11-12-2025-who-expert-group-s-new-analysis-reaffirms-there-is-no-link-between-vaccines-and-autism\">no evidence<\/a> that <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/health\/robert-f-kennedy-jr-health-secretary-nih-vaccines-autism-b3014505.html\">vaccines<\/a> cause autism.<\/p>\n<p>The results come at a fraught time for U.S. public health, and in particular for childhood vaccinations, including the MMR shot. Federal <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/measles\/data-research\/index.html\">data<\/a> reveals that MMR vaccination rates have been steadily <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/publichealth.jhu.edu\/ivac\/2025\/across-the-us-childhood-vaccination-rates-continue-to-decline\">dropping since before the pandemic <\/a>and cases of life-threatening measles are at <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/americas\/us-measles-cases-rfk-cnn-outbreaks-b3026480.html#comments-area\">a 35-year high<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As measles outbreaks rage across the country, public officials\u2019 messaging has been bewildering at times.<\/p>\n<p>Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. &#8211; who <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/health\/rfk-jr-measles-vitamin-a-b2709490.html\">promoted unapproved treatments<\/a> for measles last year &#8211; told <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/08\/02\/politics\/rfk-jr-fauci-medical-misinformation\">CNN<\/a> this weekend that people should get the MMR vaccine to protect themselves against the virus. But Kennedy also questioned decades of findings regarding the safety of vaccines when talking about autism, losing his temper at CNN anchor Dana Bash over questions about his leadership and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/americas\/us-politics\/trump-rfk-vaccine-children-autism-b3022975.html\">conversations with President Donald Trump<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/2277526002...jpeg\"  loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Health Secretary Robert F. A new study showing no ties between autism diagnoses and the measles vaccine builds on that evidence (Getty)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou are wrong when you say that this issue has been studied,\u201d he told Bash.<\/p>\n<p>Trump wants Kennedy to study any ties between autism and vaccines &#8211; despite current and established evidence. <\/p>\n<p>The president previously suggested the combined MMR vaccine was \u201cbad\u201d and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TrumpTruthOnX\/status\/1971588655669297173\">should be split up<\/a> during <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/americas\/us-politics\/trump-tylenol-autism-vaccines-truth-rant-b2834486.html\">a September press conference on autism<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want no mercury in the vaccine. We want no aluminum in the vaccine. The MMR I think should be taken separately. This is based on what I feel,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cidrap.umn.edu\/public-health\/experts-push-back-trumps-tying-autism-childhood-vaccines-tylenol\">Trump said<\/a>. \u201cIt seems to be that when you mix them, there could be a problem. So, there\u2019s no downside in taking them separately. In fact, they think it\u2019s better. So let it be separate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy has acknowledged studies have shown no link between the MMR vaccine and autism, according to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-affiliate=\"true\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/go.redirectingat.com\/?id=44681X1458326&amp;xcust=b3027452&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nytimes.com%2F2025%2F11%2F21%2Fus%2Fpolitics%2Frfk-jr-cdc-vaccines-autism-website.html%3Fsmid%3Dnytcore-android-share&amp;sref=\/news\/health\/mmr-vaccine-autism-children-rfk-cnn-b3027452.html\">The New York Times<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The MMR vaccine has been studied for decades around the world and is often mentioned when talking about autism because of a 1998 study by former doctor Andrew Wakefield that has since been disproven, according to the non-profit <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autismspeaks.org\/do-vaccines-cause-autism\">Autism Speaks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The study in a small group of children suggested that vaccinations caused children&#8217;s brain development to regress, but it was later retracted due to flawed methodology.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBefore it was retracted, Wakefield&#8217;s 1998 study had been <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/retractionwatch.com\/the-retraction-watch-leaderboard\/top-10-most-highly-cited-retracted-papers\/\">cited more than<\/a> 600 times. This serves as an example of how easily misinformation can spread, and how hard it can be to correct,\u201d the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.healthychildren.org\/English\/safety-prevention\/immunizations\/Pages\/vaccine-studies-examine-the-evidence.aspx\">American Academy of Pediatrics<\/a> says, noting that Wakefield\u2019s medical license had been revoked.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/GettyImages-2202122299-(1).jpeg\"  loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"A woman holds her young daughter while she gets the MMR vaccine at a clinic in Lubbock, Texas, last year.
