Skye Nicolson has been forced to withdraw from her world title fight against Japan’s Miyo Yoshida due to injury.<\/p>\n
It was announced last week that Nicolson would defend her WBC super-bantamweight title in her debut MVP fight on the undercard of Mikaela Mayer vs Chantelle Cameron in Birmingham on August 29, live on Sky Sports.<\/p>\n
But those plans have been dashed after the 30-year-old Australian sustained an injury in training.<\/p>\n
“I’m devastated to announce that, due to sustaining an injury in training last week, I have had to withdraw from my scheduled fight,” Nicolson said in an MVP statement.<\/p>\n
“I’d like to sincerely apologise to Miyo Yoshida and her team for this delay. I have nothing but respect for Miyo and I’m looking forward to finally sharing the ring with her before the end of the year.<\/p>\n
“A new date for my fight with Yoshida will be locked in very soon, and I can’t wait to get back in the gym, back to full health, and back to doing what I love.<\/p>\n
“Thank you to everyone for your continued support and understanding.”<\/p>\n
Luton’s Tysie Gallagher (10-2) will now fight on the main card of the August 29 show at bp pulse LIVE against a yet-to-be-named opponent in an eight-round super-bantamweight contest.<\/p>\n
In addition, India’s No 1 fighter, Neeraj Goyat (20-4-2, 9 KOs), will take on Germany’s Yessin Koulai (8-1, 3 KOs) over six rounds at super lightweight.<\/p>\n
