\n Legendary bassist, singer, and songwriter David J, best known as a founding member of Bauhaus and Love and Rockets, will perform at Reading\u2019s Face Bar on Ambrose Place on Wednesday, December 2, as part of his latest live tour.\n<\/p>\n
\n David J played a key role in shaping the sound and identity of two of the most influential bands in gothic and post-punk music.\n<\/p>\n
\n He co-founded Bauhaus in 1978 and wrote the lyrics to their debut single, Bela Lugosi\u2019s Dead\u2014a track widely credited with defining the gothic rock genre.\n<\/p>\n
\n After the band\u2019s initial split in 1983, he co-formed Love and Rockets with fellow Bauhaus members Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins.\n<\/p>\n
\n Beyond his band work, David J has pursued a solo career, releasing several albums and singles.\n<\/p>\n
\n In 1990, his single I\u2019ll Be Your Chauffeur became one of the first songs to reach number one on the Modern Rock Tracks chart.\n<\/p>\n
\n His more recent releases include The Day That David Bowie Died, which reached number four on the UK vinyl singles chart in 2016 and appears on his double album Vagabond Songs.\n<\/p>\n
\n David J has also been active in theatre, composing scores and writing plays such as Silver for Gold (The Odyssey of) and The Chanteuse and The Devil’s Muse, alongside showcasing his visual art in galleries around the world.\n<\/p>\n
