Brooks Koepka\u2019s first season back on the PGA Tour<\/a> is running out of road. The five-time major champion arrived at the Wyndham Championship ranked 86th in the FedEx Cup standings.<\/p>\n

Only the top 70 advance to next week\u2019s St. Jude Championship. Barring a big finish at Sedgefield Country Club, Koepka\u2019s comeback season ends Sunday.<\/p>\n

Koepka opened with a 3-under 67 on Thursday. That left him six shots off leader Beau Hossler\u2019s bogey-free 61. He answered with a 4-under 66 on Friday to reach 7 under. He started Saturday with four bogeys.<\/p>\n

The math does not favor him. Koepka needs a solo fourth-place finish or better just to climb inside the top 70. Realistically, he needs to win the tournament outright.<\/p>\n

His season has swung between flashes of form and long droughts. Koepka tied for 14th at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. He missed the cut at the U.S. Open and the Scottish Open. Across 15 starts, he has one top-10 finish and six finishes inside the top 25.<\/p>\n

Koepka\u2019s ball-striking has not been the issue. He ranks 29th on Tour in strokes gained overall this season. He sits eighth in approach play and 12th off the tee. His putter has undercut all of it. Koepka ranks 115th in strokes gained putting.<\/p>\n

For Brooks Koepka, a Top 50 Finish Was Very Crucial\"Wyndham<\/p>\n

The top 70 after Wyndham advance to the FedEx St. Jude Championship. The top 50 after that event carry the bigger prize.<\/p>\n

Any player finishing inside that number locks in a spot in every 2027 Signature Event. The Tour also expanded its Player Equity Program this year to reward top-50 finishers with recurring grants, though Koepka cannot tap that benefit regardless of where he lands.<\/p>\n

The Signature Event question matters most for him specifically. As a returning member, Koepka could not accept sponsor exemptions into those events in 2026. He had to qualify through the Aon Next 10, the Aon Swing 5, a win, or a spot in the world top 30.<\/p>\n

None of those pathways opened for him this year. Missing the top 50 this fall means running that same gauntlet all over again in 2027.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0FedEx Cup Fall series will give him a second chance to lock up full 2027 status.<\/p>\n

Despite the Setbacks, Brooks Koepka is Happy\"The<\/p>\n

Koepka left LIV Golf in December, citing his family, with his representatives saying<\/a>, \u201cFamily has always guided Brooks\u2019 decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Saudi-backed league\u2019s global schedule kept him away from his wife, Jena Sims, and their 3-year-old son, Crew, for long stretches. The PGA Tour\u2019s mostly domestic calendar does not.<\/p>\n

Koepka has said the difference off the course has changed his mood on it.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s easier to come out to work when everything at home lines up,\u201d he said<\/a> earlier this year.<\/p>\n

At the Farmers Insurance Open in January, after scraping inside the cut line in his first non-major start back, he described his family waiting behind the ninth green.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know the last time I\u2019ve actually made a cut,\u201d he said<\/a>, smiling.<\/p>\n

None of that has softened his competitive edge. Koepka has never treated survival as a real goal. \u201cIf I\u2019m out here to try to make cuts, I\u2019m probably done,\u201d he said in February. Whatever happens this weekend, he already has the life he left LIV Golf to find.<\/p>\n
