{"id":733013,"date":"2026-08-10T01:16:38","date_gmt":"2026-08-10T01:16:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/733013\/"},"modified":"2026-08-10T01:16:38","modified_gmt":"2026-08-10T01:16:38","slug":"extinct-ice-age-toad-discovered-in-los-angeles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/733013\/","title":{"rendered":"Extinct Ice Age toad discovered in Los Angeles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The La Brea Tar Pits became famous after much larger fossils of creatures, like giant mammoths and sabre-toothed tigers, were found there.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">According to a study, this is the first extinct amphibian found in Los Angeles and only the second Ice Age amphibian species discovered in North America.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Dr Alberto Cruz was looking back at collections of amphibians and reptiles, when he came across the new species, but he initially thought it was a modern spadefoot toad which had been sick or injured.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He said: &#8220;This material is originally from the 1950s, but when you study it again, you can find gold in these specimens.
